NOS4A2 also has a lot of links to his Dad’s The Shining/Doctor Sleep stories (and some others too), but is most definitely his own book. I liked his The Fireman a lot too (not in this collection sadly).

20th Century ghosts is a great short story collection. The first story is so messed up. I really loved NOS4A2 too (the TV show kind of sucked I only made it a few episodes). There was a comic or two that were side stories for it also. Some of you new to Joe Hill might not know but he also wrote the Locke and Key comics which are fabulous and were made into a pretty decent Netflix show. I have a hardcover of Horns but haven’t read it yet and I don’t have Heart Shaped Box so I might just grab this to fill that hole in my collection and get Horns on my Kindle. Horns was also made into a movie with Daniel Radcliffe but I’ve not seen it.
The Locke and Key comics are brilliant, the show…I mean, Hill seemed to be okay with the adaptation but it felt very CW teen drama to me, and that is very not the vibe of the comics.
Horns-the-movie was pretty good.
Horns-the-book was great. I really should watch the movie.

$1.99 - no brainer. I have not read this before although as a Things iOS app user, I have been introduced to GTD. This is like the OG GTD author, I believe, so it’s a great bargain to buy this book for two bucks. I’m puzzled that there are some negative reviews though, mainly saying this edition is just too bloated.
I have an older hardback edition on my office bookshelf and am happy to add a digital copy for two bucks. His concepts are simple yet effective, and I’m sure this version just adds more padding as self-help books tend to do.

Jonathan Sims’ novel Thirteen Storeys is $1 on Kindle at the moment. Sims is the creator, writer, and most consistent performer on the terrific horror fiction podcast The Magnus Archives, which recently finished up with its 200th episode, all planned out to at least some degree ahead of time. I haven’t read his novel yet but I strongly suspect it will be excellent.

Thanks, purchased. I’ve only listened to a few episodes of The Magnus Archives but really enjoyed the stories I heard.
If you’re interested in this sort of thing, John Lukacs’ superb Five Days in London, May 1940 is $2 today. It covers the cabinet struggle to decide whether to make peace with Hitler after the fall of France and the Dunkirk evacuation, or to go on fighting in a hopeless struggle. It’s a relatively quick read for a book of its kind — just 260 pages — but thoroughly engrossing.
$3 is a crazy price for all three volumes of the Baroque Cycle!
- Print length : 3505 pages
That should last you a few weeks.
Good morning everyone, or at least pleasant ‘time of day’ wherever you may be. I notice that the Binti trilogy of books is on sale today at Amazon for $1.99 and I am intrigued. Anyone have any impressions about this series?
It’s terrific. I don’t have a lot of specifics to say about it at the moment, but like, $2 is well worth it.
Me: Hmm, that looks interesting, I’ll go pick it up.
Amazon: You already own this.
Me: Good lord, my book collection is turning into my games collection.

Darn it - no kindle edition for my part of the world
Thanks for the tip @divedivedive, malkav is right. So far is it just terrific.
I know there’s been a lot of talk about this one and it’s on sale. I forgot to post yesterday so I don’t know if it will be a deal for a whole lot longer. I’m glad I was able to withstand the positive comments a few weeks back. Now if only I can do the same on the Mass Effect Legendary remasters…must resist the urge it will be 20$ on black Friday ;-)
Thanks for the head-up. That one was nominated for a Hugo for best novel IIRC.
Kim Stanley Robinson’s Aurora is on sale today. I’ve read his Mars books and liked them, so I’m probably inclined to pick this one up as well though reading the reviews on the page seems to indicate this can be a challenging read, and not really what a lot of people expected given the subject matter. Any opinions out there?
edit: and holy crap! There are a ton of Star Trek books on sale today for $.99, if you’re into that sort of thing.
second edit: ok, maybe not a ton. But a few! Also, this short story from Martha Wells that appears to be set in the universe of Murderbot is only $.99 as well -
