Man I seriously wish we could play it together somehow. Hey! They should make it a FUCKING VIDEO GAME.
Sorry for yelling. :)
Edit: Now I have to find the box. I actually had the counters separated in individual film canisters. And xeroxed a crapload of character sheets. I saved each one. When a guy died or was injured or whatever, I wrote MIA, KIA and such over them. I am such a nerd.
Heh, you should have seen the big nuts-and-bolts chest of mini-drawers I used for my Squad Leader counters.

Went in blind on this as I need some Gibson love. Thanks.
First book of Joe Abercrombie’s latest series(/trilogy?) $4 for US Kindle, today only:
Thanks! I’ve been wanting this one but I didn’t want to pay full price.
Today it was announced that the Russo Bros have been signed to make a Netflix movie based on the spy thriller series “The Gray Man” In what I am sure is no coincidence the first book in the series, The Gray Man, is on sale:
I grabbed it. I figure there is likely a good story there if they are willing to throw $200 million at the Russo Bros to turn it into a movie.
Rennie Airth’s River of Darkness is on sale for a buck. It’s a historic murder mystery that takes place in the UK in the aftermath of WWI, featuring a Scotland Yard detective who is also a PTSD- and injury-suffering veteran of the war. It ended up being a 5-book series, but each is a stand-alone mystery, and River is probably the best of them. Highly recommended. I have it in paperback but picked up an electronic copy for the eventual abandonment of my physical library.
That was my very first thought.
I did grab it though, I like mysteries and for a buck, why not?
David Brin’s Earth is $4.99:

Excellent if you have never read it, even almost 30 years later.

Yeah, Brin holds up well. I need to read the Uplift series again.
Hmmm. I own it (bought a used paperback copy ages ago) but never read it.
I own it and loved it back in 92 when I read it. Tempted to get a digital copy for a future reread. I don’t know where my physical copy is anymore. Probably some box in my parent’s basement.
Demolishing the Myth: The Tank Battle at Prokhorovka, Kursk, July 1943: An Operational Narrative is on sale for 2.99:

If you are a Lady Astronaut fan and have already bought (and read) The Relentless Moon, don’t forget to get your postcard!
And my eBook gripe - I’m still pissed at Apple for screwing up the pricing of eBooks. Here’s an example from my wishlist:
yeah, 9 years after release and the cheapest I’ve seen it is $8.99. Didn’t bite, and here it is back at $12.99. F*ck you Apple.

Wait, why is this Apple’s fault. The only books I ever remember going on sale back before ebooks was the crap in the Barnes and Noble clearance aisle that nobody ever wanted anyway.

I used to buy the big coffee table books about tanks or fighter planes and whatnot. $2.00? Why not?
Long story, but when Apple started doing Apple Books, they effectively conspired with the Publishers to break Amazon’s $9.99 ceiling on eBooks (they were sued and lost for illegal price-fixing, but by then the Agency rules had somehow changed). Before then, just like any bookseller, Amazon could sell the books at whatever price they wanted, now the price is set by the publisher and they can’t.

I see. There are a lot of high-priced ebooks on Amazon now, yeah. I’ve noticed that all you have to do is call it an “eTextbook” and suddenly you get to charge $35 and up for some books that will never be “textbooks” to any class.
