Good point, I think Brunner was among the most prescient of SF writers. Certainly I find Zanzibar quite predictive.

They’re very popular, your local library system should have the entire series.
My library does have quite a few, but in a perplexing move they seem to only support web or epub. I can use my iPad as an eReader but I don’t think my Kindle will work.
Anyway, I haven’t talked to them yet. Just got my card recently because we moved. I’ll figure it out.
Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower is on sale today for $2.99. I haven’t read it in quite some time but I remember it being an interesting post-apocalyptic story.

Amazon kept on enticing me with the “buy $25 kindle books and get $6 back” offer! It’s not helping my backlog. The FOMO is big on this one!
Le Carré’s incomparable The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is $2 on Bookbub today.

You’re welcome.
Also, George Alec Effinger’s When Gravity Fails is on sale for $2. It’s the first of a three-book series, but works as a stand-alone novel. We’ve discussed it before upthread, but it’s great visionary sci-fi.

And I just saw that Jonathon Lethem’s debut novel Gun With Occasional Music is $2 today. It’s…hard to describe, but good.

I’m intrigued. Have you read it?

I grabbed it from the library back when it came out and recall it being distinctly Fine, and promptly forgot about it as it got orphaned a bit by the (well-documented) disruption of his (previously quite consistent) writing schedule. I think most fans of his writing who are okay with more general fantasy will like it, but I’m not sure I’d recommend making it too high a priority until there’s a solid date on the sequel.

I have not read it but I like Butcher’s stuff. Its light entertainment.
Oooh, Gun With Occasional Music is wonderful. Strongly recommended.
I picked this up cheap last year and found it to be quite good. It’s a climate change disaster story. The approach to the novel is interesting — none of the characters are named, which gives the whole thing a sort of arms-length effect. Like you’re watching a slow-motion train wreck that doesn’t involve you. Anyway, it’s definitely worth $2, and certainly better than 3.7 stars.
Tor’s free ebook is available:
Looks interesting, but it does start with a map and a rather daunting list of characters and a pronuciation guide. Is it a novel or a textbook? Have to read it and find out!
If it’s an unspoken name I don’t know why they bother to include a pronunciation guide!
I’m intrigued that the main character is an orc, who has to do the bidding of the bad guy, presumably.
I don’t know about you guys, but whenever a deal comes up for a Star Trek book I grab it. Today, it’s Uhura’s Song for $.99 -
