El Presidente Announces Tropico 4

Okay, not El Presidente, more like Kalypso.

El Presidente Returns as Kalypso Media Announces Tropico 4 on PC

Bracknell, UK – 13th August, 2010 - Following the worldwide success of Tropico 3, Kalypso Media is pleased to announce that Tropico 4, the next title in the bestselling strategy simulation series, is currently in development by Haemimont Games for Windows PC. News on a possible console version of Tropico 4 will be made available soon. In Tropico 4, El Presidente returns to the island of Tropico, and this time, he’s bringing new enemies and allies along for the ride, as he fights to turn his little island into a superpower. New content and gameplay features will influence whether our fearless leader can create a feared superpower, or become nothing more than a small-time banana republic ruler.

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers - and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements. You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

Features:

  • New campaign consisting of 20 missions on 10 new maps
  • 20 new buildings including Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente
  • Six new Interactive disasters including volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes
  • Council of Ministers - appoint selected citizens to ministerial posts in the government to help push through your more controversial decisions
  • National Agenda – receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events such as ongoing disasters
  • Facebook and Twitter integration – post live Tweets directly from the game or create posts automatically upon completion of missions, unlocking achievements, etc. Store and display achievements on a Tropico 4 Facebook page and see their how your Dictator rankings fare against other players (PC only feature)
  • Screenshot gallery – take screenshots of your tropical paradise and share on your Facebook page (PC only feature)
  • Trading system - import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production

Yeah, but I couldn’t find a separate thread and we have new info.

We are sticking with the Cold War setting, but we are adding a bit more spice to it. For example, in Tropico 3 you had to deal only with the superpowers USA and USSR in your foreign relations. We are adding several new geopolitical powers such as Europe, China and the Middle East.

There are about 20 brand new buildings, including a Chemical Factory, Mausoleum, Roller Coaster, and Fire Station. All buildings from Absolute Power and Tropico 3 are also included in Tropico 4.

Plus other stuff like appointing cabinets and setting National Agendas.

Yea! I had no idea this was decided on. Love Tropico 3 and looking forward to more.

Seems a bit early for another facelift, but hell, bring it on.

And make it harder this time. We’re gamers, after all.

Hmm, seems a bit soon to me. My hankering to play it again has not surfaced. Maybe I’ll be more excited when it is about to come out but right now I can’t muster any care for it.

Yes please. I also definitely wouldn’t mind a larger emphasis on the guerrilla freedom-fighters and military coups. Perhaps if an election is lost by the player, (and presidente had enough sway with the military faction) the player would be able to stage a coup to take power back?

Me alegra profundamente esta noticia.

I think the game should add Jurassic Park as one of the building. You know, dinosaurs :D

I disagree that the game must be harder by having more war. First: dificulty settings is how you make a game harder, if you want a game harder don’t play in normal and ask in forums for a harder game. Second: this is a economic game, the game is harder by presenting economic challenges, this game is not a RTS.

I never said to make the game more difficult by adding war, but that it would be nice to flesh out those aspects. As it stands with tropico 3 / DLC, the economic aspect of the game is pretty easy even on higher difficulties.

I would like for a liberal democracy to not be the default best pick for a style of rule. Being an actual dictator, in the main campaign at least, seems to be something you would only bother doing for the fun of it.

  • Trading system - import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production

That is probably the most important feature to me. It would be good to see a more volatile and involved economy happening, if that will happen.

That said, the cynic in me thinks this new iteration delivers about as much as what an expansion pack would. I hope I am wrong of course.

Cough:

Oh well, no need to bump it.

I really just hope they fix the difficulty, and make it at least somewhat plausible to need to use some of the myriad of political tricks that they have available. And, of course, the economic difficulty.

I do like the color they’re adding to the trees, though. I felt Tropico was a little too “green.” It had beautiful graphics, for sure, but maybe could use a bit more color variety. It was also somewhat hard to identify what crop was being grown without clicking it.

New trailer up for Tropico 4:

So lots of new stuff in T4:
New buildings (duh), new appointable junta, import/export, international relations, interactive disasters (ala Simcity 4?), campaign mode where your El Presidente gets progressive traits and abilities as he goes along the scenarios (hopefully both good and bad).

I’m sure there are plenty of other features I’m missing too. They’re also promising more post-launch support this time. I finally finished all the missions in T3+expansion… so I’m excited.

Oh - and I saw on the T4 page - Price - 49.99$ for Xbox-360 and 39.99$ for PC.
And free DLC post release. Yay!

If your goal is high score, you need to steal a shedload of money. You get surprisingly few points wise for running a stable, pluralistic nation. Being a dictator makes it far easier to rob your nation blind.
