So I have seen a few videos lately of players using a spell that makes meteors or something rain down that absolutely destroy enemies. I am guessing that has been nerfed by now but (a) What is it? and (b) Does it still do that kind of damage?

That’s Meteorite of Astel. It’s flashy, but the damage is quite scattered and random. It’s never the best solution to any fight, as far as I can tell.

There are an astounding number of spells in this game, far more than I expected at the start.

The meteor spells look so cool, I want to use them… But you can’t aim them at all… So they end up being a complete waste of FP.

Vest decision I’ve made is putting enough strength and dexterity into my magic user so she could wield the Uchigatana with hoarfrost. Thanks for info everyone to make her a bit more deadly outside of magic.

Is there a spell or arrow type that’s really good against giant bears? They’re kicking my ass, and they chase so far it’s hard to hit and run.

You have to fight them from their belly. Get in there and snuggle up to their danglies. Alwats roll toward them, never away. Don’t use target lock, just stay under them as much as you can and spam either melee attacks or a good art of war. The Wing of Astel’s Nebula ability is the best choice for almost all large foes. They’re also weak to fire.

Or… sleep arrows/ Sword of St Trina.

Awesome thanks!

Is there something special about the 2 mausoleums near other in Liurnia that don’t have bells? Should I not kneecap them for any reason?

So @tomchick is a big fan of thumbs ups and comic sans. We should get him to put both in

Runebears are regarded as The Worst.

But like was said, your best bet is to roll towards them. And then pray they don’t grab you.

They haven’t been interested in my great runes so I don’t know. The one near the bridge in the water took one.

Apparently they take secret boss’s?

Darn it, that means I definitely missed some quest stuff. Oh well, not at all surprising. I tried to be relatively completionist but was also making decisions for roleplaying reasons that I knew would mess up quests eventually.

Anyway, sounds like the Fire Giant phase 2 was just a ā€œmeā€ problem. I let myself be intimidated by the transition effects into phase 2 and didn’t try to go underneath again just assuming it would be bad.

Unfortunately I believe this summon gates a good talisman.

Is it just me or are the questlines just impossible without a guide? There’s absolutely no way for me to have followed 90% of where people will be or what to do.

FROM makes the quests almost impossible to follow without going to the wiki. That is how all the DS games are. Some quests even contradict other quests.

What’s the point of it though? While I think quest markers a la Witcher 3 may be a tad overkill, it has been so obscure it literally makes zero sense. Some of it even requires re-treading old spaces.

Another recent pet peeve is Millicent’s quest. Good god I had to work through that rot lake in Heligtree 3 times - once to kill the miniboss, then back again because I needed a flask refill before I had to help her take on 4 NPCs, and a third to reload so I could pick up her quest item.

Why even put this quest area in such a hard to get to place (and why not put a Site of Grace next to it), why not give me the wuest item immediately after I finish the fight? The action and visuals are great in Elden Ring, but the quests are aa D+.

Man, bears are the worst. I’ve have beaten some of the big ones but it is always a struggle. I encountered one in a cave that looked different that I haven’t tried yet. I fear him.

I think lobsters are worse than bears. The bears at least I understand and can mostly read their moves, even if the dash one still gets me almost every time. I’ve got no read on the lobsters.

Run, that’s what works with lobsters. Except the ones in the way. Then chugging 7 of my 8 health flasks is the only thing that helps.

I took down the Valiant Gargoyle. Finally. Helped to upgrade my mimic to +10. I tried co-oping it a couple times; didn’t know there’s an NPC summon there. I also didn’t know that boss HP scales with number of players. With two players this one is hopeless because of how phase 2 works.

Took out the fire giant tonight, mostly thanks to advice higher up in this thread about getting in close. Used the giant hunt ash of war on my claymore, and it did some work, then had my extra flask set for damage reduction on his second phase and switched to casting dark moons.

Took a few tries tho, since getting hit by some of his moves was insta death for me.

Now im hesitateing to move forward at the grace past that, not sure if i should go finished up the secret medalian side first. Any time a game asks me if im ready or want to wait, im worried im going to miss something.

I always thought, they add a lot of replay value and discussion between friends on the school yard.
By accident you learn more and more about the quests by replaying. I usually never look up questlines in the wiki. It would just spoil it for me.
