I just had such a great time tonight.
I started with a bit of a messup. I found the famed sleeping dragon everyone talks about! I’m glad I didn’t have that reveal spoiled for me by some youtube video. Quite a different from the other dragons. So I see the grace point behind him and I figure ok, this is it, keep hitting his tail and then run to the grace point before I get the dragon heart, easy peasy.
I started hitting him. And hitting. And hitting. Oh boy. Anyway, long story short, I think I hit him too many times when he was down near zero. Oh crap! I needed to run! So I ran! But my speed was too slow from a debuff from the dragon I’m guessing? So yeah, I didn’t make it in time. Farming opportunity lost forever I guess. Shrug. Not a big deal, I got 3.5 levels worth of runes, so I farmed some more enemies until I got 4 levels. And I spent them all on vigor. Went from 20 to 24!
Ok, where was I? Oh yes! Back to the cave with the giant bear and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Badass. The nice thing about the buildup to this fight is that I have to kill a lot of wolves before I get to the boss. Most runs the wolves drop nothing. But every 3rd run or so, one of the wolves drops thin beast bones, the most precious resource in the game (so far). Woohoo!
Least obvious? I take out the support first, right? The main guy is too strong? I thought that would be more obvious?
I’ve gotten so close so many times tonight. I’ve got my death run runes built up over 60k now. It’s going to be VERY painful if I somehow have a run where I die before collecting the runes.
But man, this is such a great fight. I love that it plays out so differently every time even though I do the exact same thing every run to start things off. It kind of reminds me of Halo, how the fight plays out completely differently every time.

You guys weren’t kidding. Fire Giant was pretty tough. I think I took four runs at him before taking him down. Can’t be entirely sure, though. I’m definitely gonna help some people with this dude. @Rock8man you will be interested in his boss weapon!
Weird that this arena has two entrances. Is this the only one like that?

Yea, take out the range guy first. He is such a pain and will kill you if you concentrate on the heavy attack guy the range guy will destroy you. Use spirit ashes to keep the sword guy busy.
That’s very impressive! Granted I faffed about quite a bit trying to pull off the cheese but still lost count on number of attempts. It helped when I decided “ok this is how I’ll do it” and stuck with it a few attempts. Also Alexander
Ha! My spirit Ashes summon Oleg always goes after the range guy first. On the bright side that means we usually kill him together faster. On the not so bright side, that whole thing can go sideways quickly if the range guy decides to keep dodging the two of us for too long, as the main guy kills us. On the few occasions when things go right and we take him out quickly, that’s when the fight gets really interesting against the heavy guy.

I looked for Alexander but I couldn’t find his sign. Some quest, maybe? The fourth or maybe fifth run was kind of lucky, because he almost killed me in classic souls fashion when he had a sliver of health bar left. He unleashed this attack strong of ground pounds where he’d smash me, I’d drink and he’d smash me in the middle of drinking like three times in a row. It was a close thing. Pretty annoying how he’d roll away constantly. Even without legs these bosses are super mobile.
Yup, I had to look up how to progress the quest in order for him to appear. He was super resilient and outlived my +10 mimic
I don’t know if you have to do his questline to summon him. It’s worth doing nonetheless, as he’s awesome and it eventually has a very nice reward.
The downside of using Alexander for the Fire Giant is that it locks out Torrent. For that fight, being able to mount up and close distance was super helpful. The only safe place in that fight is right in his ankles.
I looked up Alexander’s questline because I wanted the reward. I would never have figured out one of his locations without doing so.

I seem to have missed him entirely. The companion jar talisman is adorable. I want it as a key chain.

Alexander gets stuck again in Liurnia above Jarburg. Maybe you need to find him there first?
In Carnia (sp?) Manor, there was one time I fell down a series of platforms near a cliff (on purpose), and eventually confronted a bunch of pots. Unfortunately, one of the last pots attacked me in a way to push me off that part of the cliff, and I fell to the next level. It still bothers me that I didn’t finish that pot off and that there was shiny loot behind him that I didn’t get. I did go around and around the manor where I’ve been before, but I can’t find out where I fell down those series of planks. Damn it. It’s so hard to retrace your steps sometimes when you find a path that’s so far away from the normal path.

Summoning Alexander doesn’t lock out Torrent… only summoning players does that.
Places you need to find Alex prior to that fight:
Radahn’s fight
Some place above Jarberg
Down in the lava near the Volcano manor
I think that’s it… and if he’s not at one of the places, he might have just moved onto the next, and that won’t break anything.

I never found him the first time. The festival was the first and last place I have seen him.
This is the first time I’ve heard of Jarburg, too.

Not sure if it is situational, but sometimes summoning NPCs does lock you out of torrent. The first dragon fight you can summon the samurai dude, but can’t use the horse.

That is Jarburg. You access it from the cliff above and south of Carian Library, or whatever that is called. In East Liurnia.
I think hes talking about a different spot, with hostile jars. If you finished the boss in the carian manor, you can back track from that grace toward the stairs with the troll that drops the troll knight sword, and the drop off hes talking about is to the right before you fight those guys.

Finally get someone who doesn’t die in the first minute to fire giant, going pretty well actually, and of course connection error has occurred. Why is this game so bad at multiplayer? I never had a problem in DS3.
And of course the very next time I get summoned the game just freezes.
Ah the Troll Knight! I forgot about that direction! That was towards the tree which had the seed. I’ve gone round and round the place so many times now, I forgot all about that direction.
