Lol. It only takes a few tries to figure out where you can walk so as not to attract their attention. And all of the ladders are illuminated with blue torches. Also, once you light a candle, it stays lit even after you die.

Are you talking about at the very end in the northwest of the Snowfield (I looked it up) or earlier? What I am saying is she never said anything in Mountaintops, which she is supposed to do, or when you first enter the Snowfield, which she is also supposed to do. I’ll try heading to the northwest and see if the quest is totally broken or not by going to the end of it, but it’s definitely bugged in some way because those previous two times she was supposed to speak she did not.

She didn’t speak to me either. And whatevs. How many dragon stones do I need? I only have two weapons and I have two of them already. I’m at the point where I want to see as much content as I can, but I’m not going out of my way to finish questlines and delve caves with yet another spell I can’t use.

Yes, at the Grace Point just beyond the Walking Mausoleum that sprays magic rain all over the area (consecrated snowfield). I think it should work anyway, but I’m not positive.

I’m collecting as many stones as I can so I can try as many builds as possible in NG+. I love figuring out the most satisfying ways to dominate the game after the peak of mise-en-scene wonder fades.

Yeah, that makes sense. I will almost certainly be entirely done with this game once I’ve beaten the final boss. It’s been really great. I’m amazed I still love it even after 120+ hours, but it’s taking up too much time and I don’t often revisit media content: movies, TV shows, book, or games. So it relieves some of the pressure to stock up on NG+ items. Also I’ve been spending my stored up runes like crazy lately, which has been fun.

@Kolbex in that next area you’re heading toward is an end-game area, so FROM has decided to be very profligate with runes there and every enemy will drop scads of them. I spent my morning playtime working my way through the first couple of grace points. I really like the legacy dungeons in this game. I’m astounded that this one, which is huge and awesome and byzantine, is not just optional, but easy to miss.

I’m honestly getting a little burned out. Might take a break for a few days.

I was actually using a weapon (Clayman’s Harpoon) with Flame of the Redmane yesterday, to farm the armor set from Cleanrot Knights. Flame of the R is good. But I tried going back to Wing of Astel to compare, and Astel is at least twice the damage, and that’s on a human-size target.

This place is rough, but a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Lanterns only need to be lit once… so you can run and light one, and then if you die whatever. just respawn and work on the next one.
  2. The hardest one, by far, is the one that’s immediately above and to the east of you. The others you can pretty easily get to without any sort of exposure or engagement. For that one, the easiest way to do it is to basically head directly south, and run and then jump at the top of the steps, over the railing right next to the ladder. You can do this and avoid any engagement to get you up to the lantern up there… the harder part is then getting across the rooftops to the ā€œhardā€ lantern. If you can get rid of the archer on the west roof up there, you can run and not worry about the one on the east roof. I think I dealt with the guy on the west roof by, from the area where you zone in, heading north up those long stairs, and plinking her from that area.

For the Latenna ashes, there’s a little church area northwest of the town there. Go there and summon her if it lets you.

For the Liturgical town, you can also use stealth. There are armor sets, talismans, spells and ashes of war that grant a fair degree of stealth. I don’t think they stack, but they make a real difference. Also, there’s a torch ("sentry torch) that reveals invisible enemies. It is sold by a merchant.

I did the town by basically just running through it and punching the archers like crazy when necessary. I didn’t even look up a walkthrough or anything! I am really enjoying the fist weapons, inspired by @TimJames to try them out, particularly the Veteran’s Prosthesis, although I really, really want to make the Spiked Caestus happen. Like, a lot. I tried the ā€œuse a greatbow to knock them off the roofsā€ strat, but archery just sucks ass. Arrows hitting the roof despite a clear line of reticle sight because the release point is like your character’s waist or something, the bow making no indications that it’s preparing to fire or something and then when I release the reticle button to see what’s going on my guy turns 90 degrees and fires, etc. Ugh. Anyway, didn’t need it.

@Hotfreak and @felswoop I just went to the church and got the prompt and finished off her quest, even though I never got anything out of her past the first interaction at the cave. At least it worked!

I know for a fact that @timjames is a Vanquisher’s Seal aficionado, alas, nothing like it exists in Elden Ring to my knowledge.

If you lock onto an enemy, you can shoot them without aiming.

Problem being that lock on range tends to be extremely short and it also targets center of mass, which isn’t very useful for shooting over cover at a target partially covered.

Edit: For this specific place a lot of people said they used a certain Art that drops arrows from above, for example.

If you are crouching it will throw things off as well.

Yeah, the run was okay until Malenia. But I mostly did a lot of jumping attacks for efficiency, which reduced some of the punching fun. If you can commit to them, the double charged R2 is absolutely amazing. So satisfying to stagger with it, assuming these crazy enemies give you an opening.

I missed him my first game, and now with my astrologer…I don’t think there is a way. Too fast and hits with too much damage. I even bumped up my Vigor to 37 - I had been keeping it fairly low but there were too many things that could kill me in a couple shots if I made a mistake. Maybe an armor change since I had been prioritizing non physical protection.

Edit: I think Alecto and I are going to have to agree to disagree and move on. Maybe in 100 more levels I can have a chance.

I don’t think it’s possible to play this game as a pure spellcaster. There are just too many foes that can close a gap and interrupt you constantly. Happily, the game’s single best weapon (my opinion) is designed for Int builds – the Wing of Astel. Get that and a good shield, and stuff like Alecto/ Runebears/ Ulcerated Tree Spirits become much easier.

I had a hard time with him too, but I killed the crystal dragon thats by the church up there, and he drops the spell Adulas moonblade, which is like carian slicer but way better. With that spell I was finally able to take out that guy and get tiche as a summon.

edited to add. Light encumberance too, you really need to be able to dodge away from his insta kills.

I’ve had that since I first got teleported there near the start of the game. Goes to show, don’t go off the description, try everything at least once I guess.
