The crows in Mohgwyn Palace are just stupid, man. Aggro from who knows how far off, make zero sound at all until their legs are taking up half your screen, and by then it’s too late, you’re dead. I kept rolling and rolling and rolling from one but it just lunged, lunged, lunged a ridiculous distance like five times in a row. Come on.

There are crows there? The only somewhat tough enemies I remember are the blood mages… and the boss. Might be my favorite boss fight so far.
I’ve been through fire giant on 4 characters now, that fight is just hot fucking garbage. I’ve never gone from loving a game so much, to hating it. Just about everything fire giant and on is such cheap bullshit.
For me, fire giant is the worst fight in this game, especially as a melee character, because he’s constantly rolling out of range and acting like a ballerina in mid air with his 100 ton shield.
#1bullshit mechanical fight in gaming history for me.

It didn’t seem that hard with a horse. Hit and run until dead.
It’s not hard, it’s bullshit, big difference. I’ve beaten him on 4 toons, it’s just an infuriating fight.

There are crows there. Did you go the whole way through or use Varre’s item?

I used Varre’s item. I don’t even know how else to get there.
EDIT: Ah, I have wikidelved. Never found that way in when exploring. Will I go back and wander through the first part of the area? Maybe; like the rest of it, it has some really nice items.
Currently in the process of dulling my blades against Melania.

The big M himself was kind of annoying but not too hard, once I googled his incredibly annoying midpoint attack and discovered I already had an item in my inventory that could mitigate it. I am not a fan of how many bosses have big AoEs and really not at all a fan of “the floor is lava” type attacks, though. Yet another one that’s proving quite difficult to co-op (partly because of continued connection errors).

Yeah same here. Once I used that it was a cakewalk. But I loved his animations and movements. Just a great lightshow during that fight.
I fought that edgelord at level 60. It’s probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in a From Software game. Probably took me longer than Melania, and totally ruined the fight for me because I made it way harder than it needed to be. That being said, I found it weird that the way I finally beat Blood Man himself is in fact through bleed. That was the point at which I went: “Hmm, maybe bleed is a little overpowered…”
Also, fun possible spoilers for the Outer Gods, and a hint at what’s to come. I won’t say that I’m the first to make the connection, but I haven’t seen anyone else make it.
So we get references to quite a few outer gods in the game. We know that an outer god is sealed away somewhere from the Lake of Rot map description, and that Scarlet Rot is likely its doing.
One of the most obscure Outer Gods we get hinted at is the Red Star. It only makes an appearance in two descriptions I’ve found, the Great Stars weapon, and one of the Errant Sorceries (the bloodbriar ones that get a boost from wearing Alberich’s set). Now, I ask that you compare these two images.

One is of the Brairs of Punishment Errant sorcery, the other is of the Scarlet Rot Bloom. This doesn’t tell me a whole lot. Maybe other, smarter people will be able to gather more from this. But what it does seem to tell us is that the Red Star is, in fact, the same god that is sealed away who created the scarlet rot. The flowering bloom is basically the same image.
Mohg’s spells also describe another Outer God related to blood, but I’m not sure if it’s actually the same one. Might be different.
As a possibly related note: When you get to the halfway point of Malenia’s fight, our character looks into the tree, strangely, as if something is hiding in there. Then Malenia says “wait,” and the fight continues. We fight Malenia so many goddamn times and end up skipping the cutscenes, that I think most players (myself included) forget about this strange moment. Unless I’m very stupid, which is totally possible, this feels like a totally loose plot thread. Perhaps the Malenia fight is not going to be a dead end for the DLC, but you are going to continue from there afterwards, and the thing our characters look at in the cutscene will actually bear fruit.

I have seen several late game bosses now (on YouTube) and they seem very Bloodborne themed.

I believe that you’re looking at the gap in the tree where Milquella was, before Mohg ripped him out.
Aha! I woulda never figured that!

Interesting stuff. I didn’t realize maps even had descriptions. I think it’s pretty genius of M and co to use fungus as a representation of the alien. One interesting thing to me is that thorns are associated with both this and the death curse, which from some reading I think was also associated with a different outer god? Wonder what that’s about. I can’t find any real reference to this thing as the “Red Star,” by the way. Where did you get that?
Fantastic! I wondered if I was gimping my build by not going to 20 endurance or more, as it kept feeling like I was crippled both in armor wearing and contiguous rolling/casting. The guides I’d seen on mage builds had such low endurance I found it frustrating and wondered if I wasn’t cut out for magic.
For some dumb reason I had my seal in my right hand instead of left which meant I had an expatriate thing to cycle through every tine I had to switch from sword to scepter. Super helpful, thanks!
What are the other spells you usually have memorized?
Wait… there’s a light load? What’s that do for you?

In times past light load gave you more iframes. The wiki says more testing is needed for this game.
I just got that but didn’t notice anything special damage wise when I cast it. What makes it so good for you?

It pretty much is. You basically don’t have to fight half the bosses in the game and those you do, you actually tend to do fine against, but you just have to actually fight them.
