fuck the spider hands… at least I got a lot of somber stones [2] and [3] out of it… I stumbled across Caria Manor by chance.

Wait, you mean you didn’t follow all the points of grace along the map pointing in that direction?

only until stormveil, then I forgot about the graces pointing somwhere. Also I might have missed some graces and was actually looking for the academy.

Hey guys, she is Melania, Blade of Miquella. In case you didn’t know.

Without the light directions I would have never found the Weeping Peninsula.

Actually she’s Malenia. I think you need additional lessons.

Damn, you’re right. OK, another 30 or so repetitions should do it.

Did you do volcano manor quests? You get the best summonable npc in the whole game for the godskin duo if you do. Not sure if you have to do all the hit jobs or just the penultimate one. The guy is a beast.

I really like the voice actors, and the old English. So sing-songy.

Apparently, it’s become more recognized among academics that that archaic form of English was dead among the actual speaking populace long before it died in writing. And that writers kept it alive in their works for no other reason than they thought it sounded nice. They made the right choice, I think. Or thinketh.

I accidentally skipped the quests there entirely, but he still showed up for me. Actually I think I lucked into the one entrance out of at least three where his sign shows up, too, because I don’t see it by the other fogs.

Got super stuck at Elden Beast and giving up on this game for now - having to fight through Radagon and then going into a fight where the boss just literally sinks into the ground and swims away from you and across the entire huge battlefield each and every time is just a ridiculous mechanic.

Was getting frustrated at the Valiant Gargoyle and the game decided to give me a hilarious self-pwn for phase one.

My god that’s beautiful. The only self-own that ever happened for me in that fight was ME falling off that cliff. The real fun part is that if you fall off that cliff, Marika’s Stake decides you unfit, and you have to start all the way back from the site of grace.

I really don’t get what they were thinking doing that. It’s such an awkward way to end your game. It’s even stranger with other people, where only one person gets the privilege of fighting the Beast, and everyone else just Benny Hill runs after them.

I respeced to try a cheese method of beating Malenia involving using the Wraith Summoning Bell with the Carian Retaliation ash, then running up a root in the back of the room and using Agheel’s Breath to kind of stick you to a platform that’s mostly out of reach of her attacks. It works, sort of. But it’s real finnicky, relies on luck almost as much as just regular fighting her, and hasn’t led to victory for me even with a dozen or so attempts. It does make phase 1 really easy, but leaves me vulnerable in phase 2. So I think I’ll probably respec back to my normal build and just skip her. I’m not gud enough.

Apparently there are a couple spirit ashes that can solo her, like Tiche the Assassin, though I haven’t seen it myself. Also, summoning co-op partners is the only way I ever would’ve beaten her.

Having three people all cheesing her in different ways can give you a charcuterie board of victory. Knockdowns and black fire damage really give her the business.

But yeah. Nobody should feel the need to fight her. It’s pretty ridiculous.

I did come really close with co-op partners once: a rivers of blood dude and a mage with some powerful stuff. But I forgot to flask up before phase 2 and bit it.

Tiche isn’t super useful for my regular build (because I don’t have 132 FP) so I never did the fight to get her. And this new build is purpose built to cheese the Malenia fight and isn’t much use for anything else. Her rune is apparently not great and I’ve made a decent attempt, which is good enough for me. I’m skirting burnout stage and just want to finish the game at this point.

Malenia is weak to frost and to bleed. Mages have at least three very good ranged frost spells (Ranni’s Dark Moon and Adula’s Moonblade are amazing almost everywhere, but especially here). Use the mimic tear to double up on those, and consider going in with a limited spell loadout to make sure the mimic uses the spells you want it to.

Melee builds using Rivers of Blood or Reduvia should also fare well.

What’s your build? I ended up beating her with Mohgwyns spear and Mimic, and set so the Mimic had no options but to attack or use Bloodboon Ritual.
