Oh, I also got a false positive I think from the crappy Easy Anti-Cheat thing. I was at the blacksmith anvil and got a message like “Inappropriate action detected. Returning to main menu.” And it popped me to the menu. I just went back in and it put me right where I had been, but very odd. I was doing nothing except looking through the menu of what you could craft there. Odd.

Yes, that site is a mess and I would avoid it.

Did you know you can destroy the insta-kill chariot?

It’s really interesting how some of the boss patterns are lifted from previous From games.

That was probably related to the server glitches they were having earlier. People on the Steam forums were complaining right around the time I had my cloud sync issue.

I have an observation. If Dark Souls is about hitting things in the butt, Elden Ring is about hitting things in the legs.

I thought Elden Ring was about running away from things.

It’s about running until you’re high enough level to come back and hit their legs.

To @Kolbex ’ point, I think I found a Dancer in the Dark-inspired enemy, and it’s just good. What a great boss that was.

One thing I don’t care for is how it seems literally everything in the game two shots you.

Not even bosses sometimes, but bosses definitely two or one shot you.

It’s so hard to learn a boss when a new attack hits for 80-100% of your health and is immediately followed up by another attack in less than a second almost every time. It’s been bugging me since the beginning, but now it’s actually getting worse. I’ve decided I can’t ever increase any stat but Vitality anymore. Not that it matters since with even double my health most two shots would still be two shots. I’d just be avoiding getting one tapped.

Edit: Also I wish gravity was consistent, but that at least you can usually learn.

My issue with the new open world design component is the questioning if I’m too low level for the current area or if I just need to ‘get gud’. The Dark Souls games were linear enough to have that sense of being in the right place for my level.

This might be the factor that makes me quit eventually.

That part is definitely an issue, but for most of the game you can just wander off and do something else a bit and come back.

There is a point where you’ve basically done everything you reasonably can and get gatekept by bosses though.

Maybe, but at least so far for me, I feel like the world is open enough that there’s a whole bunch of different non-boss tough enemies I can go practice on getting better with. With Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro the areas we were moving in were so constrained, it got really boring — turn left, there’s that dude on the ledge. Knife him, then climb right to avoid the patrol on the left, then back down, two paces to the little alley way, duck in. Go down the road and then you finally hit the tough enemy you want to practice against. It got really boring having to get through all the chaff.

With Elden Ring, the environment is far more open, it’s easier to get to interesting fights quickly without some intricate dance of dealing to get there that you’ve had to do so many times you’re seeing it when you’ve got your eyes closed when you go to bed at night. Plus the Stakes of Marika help you get back to your interesting fight quickly — instead of Dark Souls having to go through the whole damn level again.

Did any of the Dark Souls games on PC get ‘save anywhere’ mods?

How?

Be wary of Strong Foe therefore try stealth

Is what I heard.

If you rebind the stealth toggle, it solves this problem. I rebound up on the d-pad to L3 and then stealth to the now vacant up on the d-pad, which has made a huge difference.

Small spoiler: at the bottom of the first ramp, where it turns around, there’s an item visible on the ledge. Figure out how to get there.
Bigger spoiler: Just after that first turnaround, there are things on the ceiling to shoot, which drop and can break the rolling trap. You may need to be on that item ledge for the angle to hit them.
Serious spoiler: Jump down off the ramp where it narrows. There are two nasty enemies after the fire trap, but I you can lure them back to the trap one by one and use it to kill them. Then get the loot and find the lift up to the sniping ledge.
Handy tactic: the uphill path is easier with the trap active because it will kill the enemies if you run past them to reach the dead-end fight.

I’ve had my first Fashion Souls disaster. The imp head helmet has fantastic defense and resistances, but it clashes badly with the Vagabond set. I don’t think I can do it.

So…Sellia Crystal Tunnel can fuck right the hell off. Especially the whole teleport your ass there and dump you part.

I’d actually escaped but didn’t realize it and went right back into the area at least 3 times. I finally had to look up a walkthru only to find the ‘Boss’ that had kicked my ass so many times wasn’t even a mini-boss, much less a Boss. It was just a regular (though tough) monster. Git gud, my ass.

You can easily stealth down to the bonfire after the first mob passes, no fighting required.
