Holy cow, how did I get to the end game without seeing a single one?

They’re big circles on the map

Do you need to visit during a certain time of day?
He’s talking about the evergaols. You interact with the middle of them and then you get taken to the shadow realm. They’re marked on your map when you come across them.
If you choose ‘use selected’ instead of just ‘use’, you can consume all of them at once, or as many as you like at a time.
Someone beat me too it lol.
Yeah, luckily I figured that out, otherwise it would be almost undoable… Still, after visting one of those graveyards, I have so many different ones that it remains a chore. Now I’ll just sell them to a vendor. That is: if I’m close to a shrine (or whatever the correct name for the place you rest up at is). Not nearly proficient enough to risk running around with that many ‘souls’.
This sounds great! Just turned messages off all together because I got tired of all the try finger but hole etc, but this could be a good compromise

We do need a Qt3 group though.

Oh ok - I did lots of those. Thanks

At last check I had a message with over 30 good ratings. It is in Limgrave but other than that I don’t remember where it was.
Right now I have QT3 and some other smaller groups- hopefully adding one that’s more populated like SEEKERS will push all non group messages out of the pool

Man the quests in this game are so cryptic, it really makes me wonder if the community would have figured them out without official guides. I’m consulting wiki nonstop just to make sure I don’t miss anything critical.
As for gameplay, I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m in a for a rude awakening very soon. I’ve been bullying and oneshotting bosses for the past 20h or so and I hope that one of the upcoming ones will challenge me and me (mimic) to our limits.
I’m starting to get a little frustrated by this game. Not so much the difficulty of battles, but the fact that I’m so ill prepared because there are lots of things you will only learn about if you look them up on the internet.
I never play games this way, I only ever look something up if I am truly stuck, and while being stuck is defined a bit differently in this game by the fact that you can go to so many different areas, I am still not making progress with some bosses. I’ve learned that perhaps I need to upgrade my summons, something I only knew about because I came across it here or somewhere else, but not in the game (that I can remember, anyway).
I’m level 60 and only just found out that summons could be levelled up. I still have not found a vendor that sells Astrologer armor, weapons, or non-Faith based spells. I’m sure there is one out there somewhere, I’ve come across merchants selling other types of armor and weapons, but not these. I’m all for leaving things open enough for some discovery and surprises, but it seems like you need a walkthrough by class to play this game successfully. Or pick the right class that has access to the right tools early on.
Or be constantly looking things up on the web.

Well I didn’t look up that you could upgrade your summons on the web, I just explored off the main path a little and talked to people a lot. One thing you might not know if you’ve never played a From game before is the importance of exhausting people’s dialogue. Always talk to everyone until they repeat themselves; it’s generally how you do quests and sometimes how you unlock things like the summon upgrades.
Alright. Finally home from work. Got my ice cream scoop in a bowl, and I’m ready for some Elden Ring.

I have come across the vendors you are looking for. They do exist.
But what you are “complaining” about is common in DS games. I think FROM wants you to ask other players for help and or guidance.
You mean watching some Elden Ring? Because playing while eating ice cream sounds like something for the ‘what could possibly go wrong’ thread…
I think I’m way behind most. Had time to play today and finally got to the Roundtable. Also wiped a couple of times to Margit, will give it some serious attempts next time I play.
It’s all typical From, but I do wish there was a little more hand holding for some of the stuff in the game. I’m not sure I would have known that there was an item that helps in the Margit fight if I hadn’t researched it on the internet.
Hard to imagine this won’t be my GOTY, but it should be at least somewhat more accessible.
The ice cream is for when the game is loading! That’s why it’s only a little bit.
One piece of advice I should take myself: always try every weapon if you have the stats for it. It might sound stupid, but turn out great.
I’m really loving the whip. It’s hilarious. And yet, soooo useful. I’ve got it as my main alternate weapon now. Some enemies are so easy to kill with the whip. And my traveller’s outfit makes me look a little Indiana Jonish, so the whip completes it.

The further adventures of Shadow, the ignorant and incompetent Astrologer.
Still only leveled up a couple of times. The only thing I looked up was how to find the Meteroid staff, and that was a “Holy crap, run! No, there’s something big there, run over here, no, cmon horse this way!” adventure though I did get it. Didn’t realize there was something cool right near it so I didn’t get it, and don’t think I’ll go into those swamps that look like they’re from Mars again any time soon.
I’ve set a minor goal of trying to find map fragments. So when I see a marker for one, I head that way. I usually die a lot. Usually from my own stupidity. I did find a Morning Star mace, figured out how to use 2 hands to wield it, and it can be pretty powerful. Still using the two starting spells, the pebble and the arc, that I use with my Meteorite staff and that Morning Star mace. I still accidentally hit the square/use button when I’m frantically trying to dodge some big guy trying to smash me. Fighting on my horse has me swinging and missing more than hitting, and I still seem to miss more often than hit with with spells while battling on my horse. I’m more comfortable on my feet. For example, there’s a bridge of sacrifice or such with a flame catapult, and I enjoyed sneaking around ambushing people with my mace, using the staff to weaken a few of the bigger guys, and I’m kind of getting the game of dodging then jumping in when they’re vulnerable.
However. Big bad guys. I die. There was one on the road and I got it close, but one wrong move and I was dead. Some monsters that look like huge bears or gorillas and he was way too fast and I could not get away. I guess I’m just going to have to pick out some big monster that’s not impossible (I’m not talking bosses!) and with a a point of grace close by and try it until I win.
I am enjoying the fights with normal sized bad guys, so I’m hoping I’ll get better and learn to enjoy the game at the harder levels. It certainly is a real challenge to play this game without having a Wiki or guides on my laptop. But it still feels nice and open.
FWIW from a non-Souls player.
