So, for the longest time I wondered about this too. does it let me customize my look? can I change my attire to match? near as I can tell what it does is:
.
.
wait for it…
.
.
remove the cape.

Dex/Int works fine, although going down that path eventually led me to be mostly Int with spell casting.

That should only happen if you pressed the center Xbox button. Stay clear of that button! :)

I think it tailors gear to look like other gear, so you can customise the look of your toon with whatever armour skin you like. At least, a friend told me he could do that earlier today.

It changes their appearance a little but it also seems to reduce the weight. You can’t do it to everything. It doesn’t seem to be a “layering” system to me. If it is I have no idea what piece of armor it changed mine to look like and certainly didn’t seem to give me any choice in the matter.

It lets you remove some bling from armor. It reduces the weight a bit and also the defense a bit.

For example, if you find the Carian Knight Armor (which I wear) you can remove the cape. It’s not that spectacular.

There is a version that doesn’t remove defense but it does seem like a very half-baked system.

Me and my twinblade would beg to differ. I took out Margit and a Tree Sentinel and a Night’s Cavalry with it. On horse back that heavy attack is great so long as you time it right.

Oh yes, it has been effective for me. I just meant aesthetically. The animations and moves with the Twin blades have been very dissatisfying for me, and that’s a big part of moment to moment enjoyable gameplay for me in a game like this. You’re right, I have had very effective results, especially on horseback, with the twinblade.

Far as I’m aware, you can only duplicate an Ash that you have as a separate item. You can’t duplicate something that is built-in to a weapon (like Unsheathe on uchigatana). And duplicating an Ash requires a special Ash to allow you to do so.

Sounds like you are playing very similar to me, minus the staff bit (just further ahead). I’m not personally bothering with getting a staff, I don’t think - trying to stick it out with my ‘dex only’ build until I can buff up enough to get Moonveil. I tried to get it at lvl 25 and… yeah, that’s not happening. That might be fine, because I won’t have the int to use it anyway. It may require that I stay dex-only until I unlock the ability to respec.

I just obtained Moonveil last night, LOL. I’m level 48 and basically mostly grinded to get my INT up after getting to 20-something DEX for the Nightrider Flail.

Ask me again in a few days how this build feels LOL. My first lesson with my brief try at staff/moonveil is that Scholar’s Armament doesn’t work because Moonveil already does Magic damage. I’m already feeling the hurt on my FP since I don’t have a ton of MIND and I don’t have some of the FP-optimizing gear outlined in the Fextralife guide for the Moonveil Samurai.

nope, it also popped up every time I jumped.

Anyway, I did some internet sleuthing and found out how to disable it. No more xbar nonsense for me!

Related, if I press up and b together, e.g. when jumping with Torrent, it…turns my volume up.

Question:

Ashes of war - if I equip one, does that replace the skill of a weapon? I am playing as samurai and have the Katana.

The Ash of War replaces the skill of the weapon it is assigned to. So putting any ash on the Uchigatana will remove Unsheathe.

Hmmm…I am just about starting to get the hang of unsheathe…

That’s amazing. I did that tunnel naturally when I got teleported to that region near the beginning of the game, on my way back from there. And I noped right out when I opened that boss door. Now looking it up, that’s where moonveil drops. I can’t even fathom how to beat that thing. But I guess I was much lower level back then, so maybe it’s possible?

DEX Samurai guide: Use Spirit Summon to tank/crowd control, dodge-roll, Unsheathe, rinse-and-repeat, LOL.

Sometimes, depending on enemy type or range, I would also use Longbow or Nightrider Flail.

I took it on fairly early and a lot of was about being aware of the molten ground texture he applies from his attacks - I did spell/ranged combat when possible and used my Uchigatana (magic) when I was in close - I always died to rolling into the molten lava, so the time I beat him was a fight he didn’t use attack that poured lava everywhere really, and when he did I wouldn’t forget I was right next to it and dodge into it. What makes the fight hard is the tiny arena - I’ve fought a few more maga wyrms since and it’s a vastly different experience when you have room to maneuver.

Hah - I’ve watched videos on this boss, and it drives me nuts when what I see on the videos doesn’t match what happens to me. The YouTubers getting puddles of lava splashed around, but I step in and the whole room seems to flood.

Yeah, that’s what happened to me. Just lava everywhere, that’s why it seemed impossible.

Oh well, looks like I have a date with a worm when I want to take a break from exploring Stormveil.

To be fair, a lot of the room is covered in (much less lethal) fire which while painful isn’t instant death like lava, but it can be hard to distinguish (especially in the moment). If you are having a tough time with this boss (or any boss) the biggest recommendation I can provide is pump some more points into VIT. It helps more than almost any other stat, unless you are super good at the game and never fuck up and get hit, of course. :)
