Re: smithing stones, there are specific bosses that drop a bell that will make smithing stones purchaseable at the Roundtable Hold. I can buy level 1 and 2 stones, but I need to fight a specific boss to get the other levels.

I haven’t looked deep into whether that same thing applies to somber smithing stones.

I’m pretty sure someone did a thing so finding them got way easier: I suddenly had red dots on my map, and each one I went to had plenty of stones and also the item that lets you purchase them from the bell maiden.

Just lost about 10k runes in the Royal Academy, which is frustrating. My turtle 'n poke build is great against one opponent, but I fall apart when swarmed.

Not a huge deal but I feel like twice now I’ve been given new ‘emotes’ by NPCs. One was the finger snap from Kale with regard to a dude who howls in the Mistwood; the other ‘sitting sideways’ by a gal up north.

I never followed up right away on the howl quest and now I don’t see the ‘finger snap’ to even use. And I don’t have ‘sitting sideways’ either. Did I mis read each and fail to ‘accept’ them or something? Anyone know what I’m talking about? (Really would like to snap my fingers.)

Maybe you’re missing the way to assign new emotes to the Pouch on the right when you press Start?

  • Highlight an emote and press Y/triangle to get to the ‘choose new emote for this slot’ selector
  • In there should be snap?

Yeah, they probably are in your inventory but not assigned to an emote/gesture shortcut. The emote/gesture shortcuts are in the lower right, underneath the items/summons shortcuts for your pouch (top right).

Maybe I’ll head to a part of the map I know I missed and see if it helps…after a couple more tries.

When I saw the bridge I remembered it, the ballista scared me off. But that was very early. Then for some reason I kept thinking Limgrave was the southern area.

If you transfer saves from PS4 install to PS5, are they no longer in the PS4 install?

Or so, I wonder if I could back up my saves to USB, transfer to PS5 then copy saves back for the PS4 variant.

I’m trying a bunch of stuff between games which is why I’d like both with same people.

So did a merchant somewhere sell a map with information?

Are there any hidden paths or tunnels in the intro areas?

No, but now I’m confused because I can’t seem to find the info online. I was under the impression someone
marked my map and the marks look like this

And each one has been a bountiful mine.

I think I may have also missed a bunch of sacred tears. That’s probably hurting my chances too since I only heal about halfway per flask. I did almost win the vs second form and having better healing would have helped a lot.

I have found 5 so far. No idea how many there are.

Don’t need sacred tears if you don’t put points into Vigor! headpoint.jpg

If I didn’t put points in vigor I wouldn’t be at the end of the game :-)

How bad would this game be for the more casual type player?

I’m very casual and I love the game. Never liked Souls games. Like this one quite a bit and I’m slooooooooow.

I’m not a very good action player (I’m more of a strategy and rpg player). I’m enjoying it quite a bit and have gotten much, much further than any previous souls-like game (have currently taken down 5 named bosses worth achievements, no idea how many there are but there are only 42 total achievements including a bunch for tracking items down not for killing bosses).

The thing that makes this easier/more fun for me than previous games in the series is the world is much more open, if you get tired of beating your head against one boss, there’s a huge amount of other stuff that you can do and you can level up while doing it.

I’m a filthy casual who’s never played Souls games before, so sure was I that I wouldn’t like them.

More the fool me. This game is the bees fucking knees.
