TBH, this is my favorite part of the souls games. I’m not invested in beating a boss blind or solo, so if I see a boss door I throw down my sign and fight it a few times in someone else’s game to learn about it first. And then help out a time or two after beating it to refill rune arcs and grab some bonus runes in this case.
It’s on pace with GTA5 and RDR2.
- I had no idea RDR 2 was so successful, I thought it was a niche title and a labor of love for Rockstar, funded by GTA’s mega hit status. I am so wrong.
- No way they keep this pace, right? Has this game really broken into the mainstream?
- BotW has sold nearly 25 million and it’s a Nintendo exclusive. Crazy.

@Scotch_Lufkin excellent video, was very helpful. I didn’t understand how parry block worked before so I’m trying to do that now at the place with the soldiers.
Trying to get that brass shielded as a drop too (I hope).

Is there more than just 1 cookbook per type? I see a number in parentheses after some of the cookbooks I can buy and it’s confusing me.

Yep, there is more than 1

Fortunately, precision timing and responses aren’t that important in From games and Souls-likes.
Also, when you’re highlighting the cookbook, press X (or whatever) to ‘switch view’- that’ll tell you what the cookbook teaches you to craft. I was well into the game before I figured that out. Every time I got a new one, I’d go to the crafting screen to try to figure out what was new. Ouch.

So I should buy any cookbook any time they’re in stock? I won’t accidentally buy one I already have?

The Furled Finger writes your sign on the ground to BE summoned. The Furlcalling Finger Remedy is the consumable that lets you SEE summons.
This game is just massive.

Yea I killed a troll!!!
Are they supposed to drop anything?
Also, if a troll accidentally kills his troll friend in my midst do I get credit for the kill?

Sometimes, not always.
Yeah, you want to use the remedy. It’s the one with a little gold circle in the picture.

When you use that, you will see a bunch of gold names pop up on the ground. Then you go around and click on them to summon them. You may need to do it a few times, as other folks may summon them first.

That I don’t know - I don’t know if there are multiple ways to get the same cookbook. I look in my inventory to see what I have.
Nice!
So you know how in the very first bonfire / grace in the game, there’s a little imp statue right there? You can put a Stonesword Key into it and unlock a crazy dungeon. I had a fun time yesterday figuring out the puzzle to it—literally a puzzle dungeon where you have to figure out timing, skips, and enemy management—and I got to the boss.
And hooooo boy, that’s a boss. My first experience with it was like ‘oh this is complete bullshit’ but then after helping sunbro it about 10 times, I can totally make out the various attacks. I’ve learned it, now I need to get into Empty Head mode of just being…present… with it, letting go of results, and let the DEEP LEARNING commence.
This game fucking rules.

I’m still confused by how weapon upgrades work. Since I don’t have the iron whetstone I can’t do quality upgrades so does this mean I can’t do regular upgrades now as it would lock me out of quality upgrades in the future for that weapon?

And no, I’ve never had one drop anything
Speaking of trolls, there’s this one, way down south. Flaming archer type guy. Entered the fight with the usual trepidation… and he was just meat against me and my horse. I almost felt sorry for it.

You can switch scaling at will. At this point you are simply limited in your selection of available scalings because you haven’t found other whetstones yet. In the beginning (after 2 whetstones It think?) it goes like this, if I remember right:
You find an ash of war that is tagged as Heavy (strength) → you can use it to apply strength, dex, quality or standard (weapon default) scaling. Same goes for all other physical ashes.
You find an ash of war that is tagged as blood - you can apply blood or any of the physical (str, dex, quality, standard) scalings.
Magic ash → magic or phys scaling
Etc. At some point you will have all the whetstones and even if you find a Cold tagged ash of war you can choose to scale weapon with for example blood (arcane stat).
The only thing about weapon that is static and cannot be changed is the level of its upgrade (+1, +2, +3), but you want that at highest possible level anyway. Ashes and scaling can be changed at will at no additional cost, which is a change from how these games used to work, because they required relatively rare materials to change the weapon’s infusion.

Thank you so much. I’ve been so confused because of how demons souls worked. I’m going to upgrade my weapons right now!!
Thanks for giving me the finger, everybody!
Did not think it would be the consumable one but I get it now; and yes, obviously so easy to craft what is the point… anyhow, with some fine ninja’s assistance I took down Margit and am stormin’ the castle!
