Yes. Buy them all. And if they seem expensive at the beginning, go farm a troll or two and come back and buy it- don’t forget. I doubt there are duplicates, but really all of them are cheap (couple thousand Runes at most), so who cares if you ‘waste’ the runes. I got into a few places that were just rife with poison, and had no way to mitigate it. I had Boluses that could cure lots of other things- Rot, Frost, Bleed, etc., but not Poison. Finally I got sick of the poison crap and looked up where the Cookbook was. Turns out it was right near the beginning, the vendor under the rock arch on the beach,. I’d seen his cookbook and didn’t know what it meant/what it taught/was worth/couldn’t afford it at that the time, and forgot about it. Goddamn. I’ve learned, always buy the cookbook.

To add to this anything upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones can’t have it’s Ashes changed and thus it’s scaling is locked in to whatever it comes with.

Which is actually a problem for some special weapons, since many of them have complete garbage Ashes.

Yuuup. Currently considering restarting my NG+ run because I wanted to main a boss weapon, and fell in love with quickstep afterwards.

My turtle ‘n poke guy hit 50th level and farmed a complete set of Banished Knight armor. Feelin’ uber. And by uber not as squishy as the previous 10 hours in the game.

How would I get help with the crucible Knight? I don’t see a gathering post thingie to help bring people to me.

Anyone using the Bloodhound Fang as their primary weapon? Curious how it compares to a katana build for anyone that has used both. Right now I’m running around with hoarfrost stomp and I feel bad, and the Ash on the Fang looks very handy since I really struggle with staying out of reach (I’m very button mashy and end up swinging too many times and get wrecked).

Why do you feel bad?

Hah. Cause I’m a pretty poor player, and hoarfrost is a terrible crutch for me. I’m not actually improving at the game, I’m just stomping everything to death (I actually got the Bloodhound Fang from the boss it is on without ever taking a swing, I think… just stomp stomp stomp).

Granted, Fang might be just as broken but it looks like you at least have to fight with it!

I love the Boodhound Fang at +2 it seems to work great. I recently found the Uchi and upgraded it to +4 and really love both. I’m not sure if I’m missing something but I upgraded my Flail with a Sacred ashes and I don’t see any extra benefit when fighting skeletons with it a couple whacks of the Bloodhound does them in faster for me. I have some +4 somber stones but no +3 so that sucks. I assume eventually I’ll find some. I also have a no skill shield so I can trigger the special more but I always forget though ;-)

Anyone available to help me kill tree sentinel? Summoned groups 3 times and died every time.

Lol

You on Xbox @jpinard? I can help if you are.

PS5 does cross play work?

Hmmm it just kicked me because there’s an update!

Yeah, one thing about this game is that you really never need to worry about doing anything “wrong”.

You can re-spec later, swap weapon skills as much as you want, change their affinities as many times as you want, etc. You can fix your relationship with npc’s if you accidentally kill them.

Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Regarding the tree sentinel… Recommend you don’t bother with him for a long time.

What is that about somber stones though?

1.03, rip hoarfrost stomp.

  • Decreased Ash of War, Hoarfrost Stomp’s damage and increase cast time.

Nope, sorry bud. You’ll get him!

I’m swimming in somber stones… you can eventually buy them, too.

I’ve got multiple unique weapons up to +9.

You know what stones are actually the most rare for me? The freaking normal, tier 1 stones. Mainly because you pretty quickly start finding higher level ones. But you can buy the level 1 stones (it’s just annoying since the merchant isn’t the guy who upgrades weapons, so you gotta walk back and forth).

Don’t be afraid to use the stuff you find. Resources seen very non constrained in this game compared to past souls games. Just have fun with stuff.

What was that above about being something being locked in with somber stones? Was that the ash of war? Permanently?

Update nerfed mimic tear as well; that and hoarfrost were two of the things I saw commented about most often. Guess I was too slow to reach the endgame and now the nerfs are hitting all the stuff I can use to make it easier! Oh well, I didn’t expect to be able to finish the game, we’ll see.
