Whelp. I’m glad I never got the actual Hoarfrost ash, and never really relied on it on my axe. Probably won’t get to play much over the weekend, anyway. When I come back, I might not even notice!

Too bad dragonfly heads are a real pain to farm.
You typically can’t summon help in the gaols. (I assume that’s the crucible knight you meant. There’s another crucible knight in another location later.) There are a couple where you can summon an NPC to help, but that’s not one of them.
I’ve never killed this guy. I’m at level 40ish.
This evening I discovered that dragons are quite impressive. I attacked old Samarg or whatever its name is just for fun, and I actually got one hit in before I was obliterated in blue flame. Did a bunch of exploring around the lake today, am currently working my way through the back way around the lift of Dectus, and I think I’m ready to tackle the academy starting tomorrow.
Regarding keeping all of the GRRM names in this game straight, it’s pretty simple. My brother-in-law sent me this helpful reminder:

Well looks like wolves no longer drop anything :(
Killed 30 and no bones at all.
Bones? For crafting? Sheep and Boars. They are like a 75% drop from them, but probably much lower from wolves and bears.
This is what’s hurting my current game most. I really wanted to focus on a scythe; I always like to give them a good go whenever they’re available. I’m still focusing on the scythe, but I’m thinking I have to add a faster melee weapon to the mix which means yet more endurance to not fat roll. Or weaker armor I guess.

Why spend all your runes before entering a boss fight? All you need spend, if you choose, are the ones showing on your screen. The runes in your inventory will still be there after the fight if you die.

Don’t spend the ones in your inventory unless it’s to hit a level/meet some prereq/upgrade as a rule.
It’s a good rule of thumb. If you’re 70% to a level and see a fog wall… you should probably get that level.

What’s the difference between finger seal and claw mark seal? Is one more powerful?
Claw Mark Seal boosts “bestial” incantations. Given that the finger seal is the starter seal for the holy classes, I’m assuming that it doesn’t scale as well either but that is an assumption. If you wanted to focus on the bestial incantations then spending resources upgrading Claw Mark would probably be worth it.
I’m currently running a faith build and trying to decide which seal to boost is one of the choices I’ve been unable to commit to yet.
edit: You should examine new weapons and armor for their details, lots of them have passive effects, the Clawmark Seal shows that it boosts bestial incantations in that screen. Couldn’t tell you which button it is though, I always have to read all the prompts on the UI to remember which button does what.

I’ve moved from katana to fang exclusively. The fang is slower, but you can get a good rythym going with it - especially on horseback. I have it at +4 and it is doing pretty well in the Academy, but you still need to pick your fights and not get stuck in groups.

That barricade shield nerf is going to hurt, hopefully its not too bad. I have built my character around that. I hope the FP cost is not too much and the duration is not to much lower. I was also using horafrost stop for farming.
I suppose now my pure melee character will need to put points into mind because the focus cost of his two main skills just went up.

It’s 12FP instead of 8, and the time is cut in half. So… Might want to upgrade that shield and change a talisman =)
haha at that speed it made more sense to just get a DVD if one were that way inclined.

That really sucks, it is almost not worth using. I do have a very good shield though, the Eclipse great shield. Its as upgraded as I can git with the smithing stones I can find. Maybe the should have just bumped up the FP cost, but left the duration alone.
