How would you charge something in your left hand? I thought R2 would charge the weapon in your right hand, and L2 does the skill attack of your left hand, and if there is none (like in the case of the sorcery staffs) then the skill of your right hand weapon?

Sorry, I may have meant L1, because I think L2 uses my weapon art, but yes I’m still charging with my left hand for spells. I play as a melee/faith caster. My weapon is in my right hand, my symbol is in my left hand - I have lightning bolt selected. I use the L (L1 I think) button to cast a spell - I just hold it down to charge up the spell with my left hand.
Ok…. You can charge spells…? Good to know…! Yet more things to try out!

For a spell, if you are using your staff in your left hand, you just hold down L1 and it will charge it.
If you are holding it in your right hand, you charge spells by holding r1, not r2.
I realize now why my caestus build was doing such low damage. I was two-handing the weapon, which gives you the same L1 movset as dual-wield/powerstance, except you’re doing it with a bare fist. So I was doing half damage with that attack, haha. It’s very confusing because it looks exactly the same.
I think dual-wield provides the best and most useful moveset variety, but then you have to upgrade two weapons.
I finally figured out why I like this game so much, Elden ring = single player Everquest.
This is me. I mean, I’m not as hardcore as you- I do use Fast Travel and mounts, but exploration games are my jam, especially when the world you are exploring is somewhat novel. The story is often not really necessary, other than a means to propel you to a new area.
It’s funny, but I’ve been building this comparison between Elden Ring and Subnautica in my head for the last few days. ‘Funny’ because on the surface, they couldn’t be more different. Subnautica basically lacks combat, period, and ER has almost nothing but. But they both have that core of just exploring the world, being amazed at each new zone, while learning to survive its ecology- the minimal story is just there to push you along. Subnautica is already one of my favorite games ever, and because of that similarity, ER is becoming another.

So I decided to look at an interactive map to make sure I wasn’t missing a lot after finishing the first 3 zones. Looking at Points of Grace and dungeons as a key indicator of what I missed… yikes:
- Limgrave 20%
- Weeping Peninsula %30
- Liurnia Lakes 40%
So far I have missed an average of 30% of the game , and that’s probably on the low side.
The moment I realised I really liked this game was when, after banging my head against that giant and archer combo at the gatehouse, I could just go round the back.
I was starting to tire of the open world exploration a little, and just then the game drops a key in my lap. Time to go study at the Academy! Goodbye for a while Lands Between. I shall be back!
I was cocky enough to think I’d wipe the floor with these Academy denizens. Until I met dogs. I didn’t know they had dogs! Noooooooo!

Elden Ring is essentially daring the player to miss so much good stuff. Unless you are playing with a walkthrough or super heavy on methodical exploration you WILL miss a lot. The upside though, is even if using a walkthrough or heavy methodical exploration, there will still be plenty of discoveries to spice up another play or five of the game.
@Matt_W I had no idea what I was getting into when I first saw the Green Knight. I found it quite the ride and, yeah, it’s kinda fits the Elden Ring vibe. I might have to watch it again now that you got me thinking of it.

66 hours in and there are still quite a few significant portions of the map I’ve yet to uncover.
Had a productive Elden Ring day. Took down Commander Neil, healed Millicent, beat a few other mini-bosses, found the mimic ash, and got my ass obliterated by the valiant gargoyle. There is just no end to the exploration. And every location is just stuffed with secrets and off-the-beaten-path areas and really nice loot.

Hmmm no one wants to help me kill Fallingstar beast? LOL
Been sitting around for 40 min and not a single summon sign. Looks like everyone hates that thing as much as I do haha. I don’t suppose there is a discord for the mp groups to put a call out? @Scuzz
Except it happened to me while facing a … Misbegotten with an axe :(

I’ll do it! Let me know when. Is it the one in the cave or one of the other ones?

You can always go on Steam and ask for help with a boss or area. Someone will help, you will just need to set up a password you can give them.
I would help if I was online gaming. My hours are limited on some days. Also, I would have to have been to that boss and I don’t remember the name. Too many bosses.
