The discord is probably more likely to help. You’d think Steam forums might get a little resentful about someone asking for help on Playstation.

Oh, @jpinard that’s right, I forgot you’re on Playstation. I cannot help, then. :(

I didn’t even think of that. Yea, Steam wouldn’t do PlayStation. And I am on PC.
I’ve concluded that the Elden Ring caestus is the most convoluted and confusing weapon in any Souls game.
I was still a little unhappy with my damage output so I watched a video of someone else using the spiked caestus in a boss fight. He was doing a jumping attack I’d never seen before that did a ton of damage. It turns out the caestus (and probably other fist weapons) have a two-hit jumping R2 attack, but only if you are 1-handing a single one of them. If you 2-hand your weapon or if you equip two for powerstance, it reverts to a single hit attack for some reason.
The 1-handed moveset has less variety but that jumping attack rips off chunks of boss HP, so I’ll take it.

Okay, I’m starting to cave on getting this… I was going to wait for it to go on sale because I never got more than few hours into the Souls games before the hatred of the sadistic devs overpowered any fun factor, but after talking to a friend at work, it sounds like the nature of the gameplay design here lets you avoid death-loop-spirals.
So the question now is, what platform? Is the PC version enhanced at all over the console releases? Trying to decide whether 3080+ultrawidescreen > couch comfort if I go for the Series X or PS5 releases. And if I go console, PS5 or Xbox? Series X is usually smoother/better looking than PS5, but I know From is a PS-oriented company… Oh, man, the tyranny of choice! EDIT: Found this article. Sounds like PS5 got the most care, Xbox would be nice because of VRR, and PC port is sloppy and buggy.
Re: Multiplayer/Co-op
I’m not seeing an explanation to some of the questions I have about it. I have successfully summoned people to help with a boss on a couple of occasions and tried and waited and gave up on others.
Is it tied to the groups I’ve got listed in my Multiplayer “Group Password”; just weighted or not at all?
Mostly I’m curious about getting summoned by someone else. Can I throw down my “Tarnished’s Furled Finger” just any old where? Will I only be summoned by folks looking for co-op in that specific area or dungeon? I seem to recall messing around, not knowing what I was doing, and being brought to someone else’s game - an early game cave mini-boss and I don’t believe I was anywhere in the area.
Am curious to start to play more - get into others’ games and make some easy runes. Does anyone know what the calculation or scale is for runes earned? I understand I would only earn them if we win the fight - though I can still die as long as they prevail?

I guess they patched out the ability to kill that sleeping dragon? I can whack it with the morning star and there is a bleeding animation, but no health bar for the dragon and I hit it a couple of hundred times and nothing happened.
I felt the same way. I bounced off the various DS games hard.
But Elden Ring is now definitely my top-10 of all time. Giving the player agency to do something else than endlessly banging their head against a boss, and a huge, fascinating place to do it - it’s chocolate and peanut butter.
re: PC port being sloppy and buggy. I… guess? Or maybe not? I mean, I’m running it on a HDD, for crying out loud, and I’ve never had a lag or hiccup that caused my in-game demise. It hasn’t crashed on me, either. Old first-gen Ryzen 7 with 3060ti, 16Gb.

I’ve seen buggy and sloppy ports, and i wouldn’t characterize this as one. Runs fine on my stuff and haven’t seen any obvious pc problems. Still if you have a ps5, i’m not sure why you wouldn’t go with that…

You can use the “finger” anywhere within the summoning post, or whatever it is called. If you want to be used for a boss put it down near the boss door. I don’t think your groups or password will effect you be summoned by others. The password is if you want a specific person to try and summon you. Putting down your sign will only get you summoned in that specific area. If you are using the “Blue Cignet” you could get called in anywhere from anywhere if someone wearing a “white cignet” gets invaded.
If you beat a boss when summoned you should get a percentage of the runes plus a rune arc. If you die nothing happens. In either case you go back to where you were when summoned.
Some of us on PC have had problems with disconnections when being summoned.
Thanks. Yes, just now I put down the finger to “be” summoned at the Fire Wyrm boss in Gael Tunnels and that was the fight I was summoned “to”. I have not had much luck today trying to get someone summoned to help me. I know the Moonveil was supposedly “nerfed” but I wants it! Me and my ashes aren’t hardly making a dent ourselves yet.

You don’t get any boss drops, just runes. And I have noticed a reduction in summons the last couple days in my favorite spot.
I know; but for if/when I get helped out.

There’s a level difference cap. You can’t be summoned by someone too far above or below you. (Unless you use a password, with which you can summon anyone with the same password, but it will scale levelling to the lowest player.)

They should just do the scaling regardless. I don’t understand why they limit the summoning pool that way.

Big moment for me. I beat the Tree Sentinel.
I restarted from my starting astrologer field. Took a prisoner. Wanted a magic user with a katana. I’d done a LOT of exploring with my Astrologer.
At level 35 I had gotten the Meteorite Staff and nearby rock sling spell even though I HATE that area. Found a ugichi something katana. Ended up with a spell called Scholars Armament or something like for the katana and a spell for the staff call Carrion Slice I think. I was using the wolves but I beat a guy in a boat and got a skeleton summons and I like that they resurrect. Only 3 spell slots at the moment.
I do have my vigor at 20, I’d like it higher. Got my dexterity and strength up to be able to use the katana. Don’t remember what my intelligence is but I put points in it to get it decent. Haven’t yet upped my mind stat. I did upgrade the katana to +4 and got the skeletons upgraded but only +1, I don’t have what I need to get them further.
Decided to see if I had enough to kill the Tree Sentinel because he is SO cocky riding back and forth right there on that big path. Brought the skeletons up, targeted him, hit him riding away from me with Rock Sling. Didn’t do a lot of damage but it got his attention. He came riding at me full speed and, much to my chagrin, rode right through my skeletons. Managed to roll around but did take one major hit that took about half my health. Drank a health flask (I’ve got 7 total flasks at the moment) and the skeletons got his attention so I hit him a couple of times with the rock sling. Some damage but not much. Got my spell on my sword and my staff and when he was facing away took the chance and got in close and whaled with both of them. Hit him pretty good, rolled away, avoided some attacks, hit him again with rock sling, my skeletons revived, got his attention, someone I got in and got in some more shots and he went down. Couldn’t believe it. (Oh, I died the first two times I tried. I still suck at melee.)
Went back to the POG, refreshed, got a magic Sam Adams, rode over to investigate the beach, ran into a giant, and managed to take him out. At this point I was feeling good enough I headed back to a POG and quit for now. I usually quit after being frustrated and dying over and over and over trying something so decided to try something new and quit while feeling good.

Congratulations! That feeling of accomplishment is the best part of these damn games.
Almost 100 hours in. Starting to get a little cocky with my controller skills. Running back to retrieve my souls. Instead of jumping to a ledge, decide to roll off the cliff and die :)
Guess my controller skills still need work lol.
