Been trying and failing with my caster character to get Moonveil so I went on some other quests last night. Grabbed the Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling spell and, man, I don’t know how I got by without them. (Well, I do. Thank God for Glintstone Pebble.).
I also looked up another Intelligence scaled sword, the Frozen Needle. Anyone else played with that? Very cool special ability.
Anyway, got a summon to help with the Fire Wyrm to get Moonveil and I feel like it’s gonna be a good day.

I, like @Don_Quixote had managed to not explore Sellen Crystal Tunnel after the first time I was trap-transported there, and the mention of a bell bearing piqued my interest so I delved. Hate the centipede dudes. Made it to the boss, gritted my teeth and pushed open the door…
…and I’m sorry to say I don’t have an epic tale of battle to tell. I summoned my mimic, who distracted it while I bloody slashed it to bits. :P

Haven’t found it but wiki shows it as primarily dex with a strength secondary. Doesn’t seem to require or scale on int. Looks cool otherwise. If you want an int weapon I can highly recommend the Wing of Astel. Seems a bit similar to Frozen Needle.

I have the idea in my head that I like strength builds with colossal weapons, not least because they look cool when I see other players’ ghosts. So I respec’d for the Starscourge Greatsword and though I think the slow moveset is something I could get used to, the range on the blade is shorter than my trusty Omen Cleaver, which I could not get past, particularly since the Greatsword knocks enemies back. I like the gravity power, but it uses a huge amount of FP. So then I tried a few other large weapons, was dissatisfied with them all, and went back to my Bloody Slash Heavy Omen Cleaver, with the addition of a Bloodhound’s Fang in my second hand.

Man, I want to love colossal weapons soooo much, I have tried a bunch of them including that one. In fact I have wanted it from the very beginning when I saw a white phantom standing by a grace point with a giant curved sword and looked it up (it was probably not that one) and I rearranged my build to use it and the Greatsword and a couple other huge things, and they’re just a pain in the ass. The slow speed is just not viable. Enemies don’t stagger long enough, and when they do they practically inevitably get hyper armor for their next move, and they’re just all too damned fast, including bosses. With heavy heart I put away my enormous weapons on favor of something faster, although I often find myself wishing even it was a bit quicker on the draw.
Right; good catch. What had drawn me to it was it was easy to get to and had Str and Dex requirements exactly where Moonveil’s are and I’d already met them. Plus, it’s good to have a Piercing damage weapon in the mix. And the Frost Damage proc is very nice as well.
I’m definitely gunning for the one you mentioned down the road.
how viable are double-dagger setups? I’ve managed to collect a rather lot of neat-looking knives. But I imagine you’d have to spec for lots of Stamina because you’d be attacking all the time.

Weapons have different stamina drain, I suspect most daggers are really, really low.
If anything they’re more likely to run into the issue of the combo ending while you’re still at over half stamina, which can be annoying with a lot of weapons.

The R2 frost bolt is kind of amazing tbh.
It hits as hard or harder than a lot of spells and costs nothing.
The problem more with daggers is they are very short range and you can have trouble with packs without a broad sweep. Can compensate with the right ash of war probably.
I just had a repeatable hard crash in a late game area, and the Internet suggested re-verifying files in Steam. That fixed it. Kind of odd.

Yea, this was very effective and my weapon of choice for awhile. Carried me through hand castle hell.

As of yesterday no. My friend used it and got 96000 runes.
Not only can you still do the bird thing, but it sometimes gets the super rune gold eyes modifier. Got over 60k for one bird.

After getting my build put together (at least early build, level 37) and killing a boss in the boat and then killing the tree sentinel I thought I’d go over to Gatefront Ruins and see how much easier it was than when I started.
Well the guys with spears still get me. Gotta figure out how to dodge those my timing is bad. Let myself get cornered and mobbed and killed. And I still had to use Rock Sling on the big guy.
Also even though the summons tombstone is on my screen in that camp it won’t let me summons my wolves or skeletons- why?

Eeeeh. Wide swings are very situational , and I say that as someone who mained a warhammer (great weapon class) for the last 40h or so. I’d sooner spec into INT for glintstone arc or use an aoe ash to deal with packs then rely on swings that are subject to enemy’s unpredictable movement (and your camera following it) while you’re locked on.

I love that Carbot is doing Elden Ring stuff.
Wanted to use Lhutel the Headless summon when in another Catacombs. I have 21 mind and 106 FP; Lhutel costs 104 FP. I make sure my FP is topped off before entering the mist door. Inside the icon saying it’s cool to summon is present and I make the command but it acts like I’m insufficient in FP.
To be sure I use Lhutel out at the Troll by 3rd Church of Marika where you can use summons; works just fine; uses up all but 2 of my FP. Go back to the same Catacombs (Impaler’s) and same things happens with Lhutel. So I use the 3 Wolves and we win but I’m wondering what’s up with that?
I know that Lhutel’s ashes are in a different league - you have a basic tier (wolves, skellys, jelly) which take the Grave Glovewort. And in the second tier in my inventory there is the 2 Godrick Soldiers one (pretty good, been using a lot) which takes the Ghost Glovewort. 3rd tier where Lhutel sits, also Ghost Glovewort, if you read the extended mid-display begins “Legendary ashen remains”.
Anyone know of any rule about not being able to use the better summons in boss fights? Kind of defeats the purpose? Or maybe is Impaler’s (Weeping Peninsula) too low level so you can’t use it?
