Been out 33 days…that’s 4.545 hours a day.

I can play maybe 1.5 hours before I need a break…and need a break every few days.

I’m old, no staying power. Not the nerd I used to be!

It might be wrong for me to say, but I find I’m curious what exactly is in the warrior jars. I bet it’s tasty. First I was thinking it might be something savory like dumplings or a stew, but i’m starting to feel like it might be some kind of warm jam.

Also, it’s time for lunch…

I have killed a few that leave behind dumplings.

No, it’s guts. Thick, ropy strands of viscera. Filled with excreta.

(In short: menudo)

Rapiers have been fun but I’m still not satisfied with their startup speed. I still get caught winding up a lot of the time which is absurd, but. Next to try: claws.

I did not have the Thing- missed an entire area 🤓

nope, nice strawberry jelly

At one point, you’re informed that a warrior jar plans to stuff itself with the bodies of fallen warriors from a battlefield to grow stronger.

maybe the fallen warriors are also jam? Strawberry fields forever!

I think I was always one-handed weapon and shield in the Dark Souls series. I started Elden Ring focused on Dexterity and Endurance. Once I found the Godslayer(?) Sword, I began to work in some faith to use it. Somehow the slower attacks of a colossal sword didn’t feel as bad with all of that accumulated game sense as they did when I gave that category a swing early on. That even lead to experimenting with the charged attacks and learning how many more opportunities big weapons have to stagger enemies.

Then the Black Blade made its way into my hands. More Endurance, because now I have a clear goal to power stance those two together.

And it works amazingly. Jump attacks are killer, regular attacks interrupt almost everything. Aggression with the damage to back it up suddenly replaced this blocking/rolling shield style that I’ve been using for years. What a revelation!

So, in Castle Morne I found a whip.

It doesn’t seem very impressive but I keep hearing that whips are effective.

How and why?

I wondered this myself; I found one early and wasn’t impressed but I was also completely new to Souls games. The one I found came with kick which was supposedly good against shields but I wasn’t competent enough to pull it off back then.

From what I’ve read some people really like the moveset and reach. It’s definitely something I’ll give a go eventually because I can’t remember the last time I played a game where a whip was both viable and interesting.

Supposedly they are really good from horseback, but I haven’t tried it.

I love, LOVE my +8 Rapier… until I have to take on more than 1 person at a time. How do you make that work when you don’t have any kind of slash ability, just “thrust forward”?

I’m gonna be honest with you all. When I start playing for the evening it’s like having a Girl Scout cookie addiction… I can’t stop until the box is gone (or damn it I think the sun might come up soon!). I have suffered some serious lack of sleep the past few weeks cause of this game.

Yeah, I haven’t been this addicted to a game in a long time. Probably since Skyrim first released.

And when i don’t have long stretches of time to play (which is often), I go to my favorite spot to farm for 20 minutes or so. Probably why I was level 90 with like 35 hours played not long ago and still hadn’t killed any of the main bosses. I’ve since killed a couple and a bunch if mini bosses and at level 105.

I really suck at fast paced action games, too. What keeps me playing this game is the discovery of new areas. From did a fantastic job with the world design. I still hate the quirky Soulsness of the game, but there is still plenty to love.

I finally beat the Baleful Shadow after many attempts. There was a bunch of advice in many boss guides: use hoarfrost stomp to slow it down, lure it to an open shaft, etc. What actually worked was taking my time, being patient, learning his telegraphs and hitting when it was safe. Felt good.

Now I’m at Astel the Naturalborn. I’m not sure how this boss is supposed to work if you’re a melee build. It spams giant AOEs and then teleports a million miles across the arena. There’s no way to get close enough to do melee damage without opening yourself up to those aoe’s. And it’s so big it’s really hard to see what it’s doing when you’re in striking range. It has a one-hit-kill attack that is easy to not notice is winding up.

Played coop with my brother and we had a great time trying to beat Radahn in his game. Almost did it, but it was a hilarious fighting in a big group with all those summonses.

Drill Roll, baby, drill roll.

Oh man, i hate Caelid

Agreed. At least saving Caelid for later means you might have the power to smash it like it deserves.
