the buff is a ‘get more runes’ buff and happens when someone in your group (multiplayer group, not sure what the default trigger is if you haven’t manually set one) kills a shardbearer.

there is an npc that collects a blood tax when you die there and the loading screen should tell you about it sometimes.

There are no rings in this game? They were always nice additions, buffs etc…

I think talismans replace rings. But you can only use 1 at a time.

No, you can upgrade your talisman slots. I found some kind of bag that allows me to equip two of them. There is no reason to think there are not more of these bags to be found.

What I want to know if there are items that increase casting speed or spell power. I found some kind of mixin crystal thing for the flasks that says it improves magic damage, but that is hard to tell due to the nature of how damage works on mobs. I wish there was a training dummy somewhere you could attack to test things out on or if the UI simply told you the base damage of spells.

sigh I just installed the game and can’t even get it to run.

I get the initial splash screen and the licence agreement and it constantly freezes up on me. Do the PC users also only get the controller prompts? How do I press “A” or “B” (xbox buttons) when I don’t have a controller connected? Enter and Space don’t seem to cut it.

Running it on steam. Have tried:

updating Window10 & nvidia drivers
disabled windows game mode
disabled steam overlay
run it as an administrator
run it via a easy cheat by-pass hack

Haven’t scanned through the whole thread, so please excuse me if this has been covered already.

EDIT:
disabled "Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator”
checked integrity of install
shut down the Windows firewall completely

Just to explain the stuttering a bit, as it seems to be an odd error. When the splash screen finally loads up and the “press any key” is flashing. Those flashes then freeze up to anything between 10-40 seconds constantly - and while its frozen, the game doesn’t accept any input either. So this is before any heavy graphics or CPU use could muck things up…

Installed and will try to play some after work today. I’ll start as an Astrologer since my melee skills suck.

I’m also going to start with the PS4 version per advice here. I assume if they patch and make the PS5 version as stutter free as I hear the PS4 version is (on a PS5) I can switch back and won’t lose any progress, etc.

Question on offline vs. online: If I don’t plan to join other people or invite strangers to play with me, is there any advantages to playing online? Also, if my brother picks the game up, and we decide to join each other in coop, are we going to immediately get griefed by people jumping in to screw with us?

Points in Dex will increase casting speed. Not sure about items.

I googled that. Its not very much. Someone ran a test and the difference between dex of 10 and 70 was, as they put it, “Barely noticeable if you squinted your eyes”

With anything that happens at a certain time of night, if I was there when the time of day happened (like if I rested at the bonfire within view of the area) I noticed I had to teleport away and then back again to “reload” the area. Maybe try that? She was just there for me at one point, I didn’t realize there was even a trigger, I figured it was scripted to happen the first time you fast travelled back to that site of grace.

Good to know.

Question on Flask of Wondrous Physick. Can I replace sockets items freely without losing them? I want to experiment, but don’t want to lose items.

Also for golden runes, they look like hard currency that doesn’t get lost when you die. I saw an item that increases the amount of runes dropped. I wonder if that would work on them.

If they get the PS5 version to where it performs like the PS4 game does on PS5, you can migrate your save to the PS5 version. The only thing is you can’t go back from PS5 to PS4, so you’ll want to be sure before you do that.

You did the right thing. PS4 version on PS5 is the best experience.

When the servers are up (they were down last night), you should play online. Messages, and bloodstains (when they’re working…) are sometimes helpful even if you’re not checking all of them.

I don’t know for sure, but nothing is lost with any other mechanical system here, such as the Ashes of War, so I think you’re fine. I’m very confident in saying that.

That item wouldn’t of course work for used runes, it works for runes earned from combat.

One fun tidbit I noticed regarding runes by the way - it looked to me like selling them gave you the exact same amount using them did, but you could sell them so much faster than using them one stack at a time, since you can sell them all from the same selling UI. In theory. I didn’t try this but I noticed it.

Yep, that’s what I’ve been doing, selling them a stack at a time. Such a basic thing that other games would just tell you. They could have mentioned this In the description for them in the inventory but if I recall correctly, they only mention something like “use to acquire more runes”.

The big advantage to playing online is viewing the messages and bloodstains on the ground. They can often give you a good idea as to what’s coming up a head like traps, ambushes, weaknesses, etc. Some may even consider them a bit spoilery.

I can’t really speak to invasions as I don’t really do any long co-op sessions.

If your melee skills suck I would strongly encourage you to play online. When you get stuck you can call in support from a random stranger. Everything is a lot easier with random coop support.

I’ve played a bit of coop and not been invaded yet. Not sure for common it is but seems not very common.

I don’t know if using an online map is considered cheesing the game, but if people were interested, this interactive MapGenie map is absolutely fantastic. I even signed up for free for the tracking function.

I still play this game as a pure exploration game, but for certain things I want to find or specific rune farms, this saves a ton of time searching for those things.

You can use all the runes in your inventory all at one, there is an option under use for ‘use stack’ or ‘use mulitple’ or something, which then has a pop up and you can adjust the qty you are using.

Other than raising my dex to use the dex weapons I have found (Prisoner), I have been investing in Vigor and Endurance to raise HP and carry capacity. That’s like, ok, right?

You mean ALL of the different TYPES or just all of one stack? I know you can use, say, 10 Golden Rune (2) all at once, but I didn’t realize you could use literally all of them at once - I’ll have to take a closer look. Thanks!
