My flail is great most of the time, but for small enemies the arc is super weird and it goes right over their head. Also, often too slow for big bosses. For them, I’ve actually found more success by whipping out two bleed daggers, because the bleed burst damage is so sublime. I’m not great at dodging boss attacks, so I can’t win the war of attrition with a shield. Have to kill them before they kill me.
Which character starts with a flail?
I don’t think anyone starts with a flail, but it’s available super early in one of the chests at the campsite near the gate.
So this was a terrifying way to start playing over my lunch break.
I of course clicked the newer files option but it was still like… what the hell, why?

I logged into my xbox the other day and it kept on saying over and over that it was unable to load the save file. I about burned my house down. And then I closed the app and opened it and it was fine. So that probably would have been an overreaction. Probably…
I saw that last night. I’ve had more weird cloud sync messages for this game than every other game combined. I wonder if it’s the game or Steam’s back end. Starting it again helps with the normal message, and I simply took the latest for the message above.

I just had that happen to me too.
I bought one of them. If you use them, they vanish. Or is yours permanent? Well, I used mine to access the lower floor of the Roundtable. And all I got was a crossbow and, of course, another door requiring another key.

They get used up. I’ve probably found 8 or so in total and used most. I did the same thing as you did :-)

It’s not so much level as having summons and a decent weapon. I wrote above that I followed a short tutorial, had my weapon at +4 and wolf summon+1 and it was super easy. I stayed on horseback and basically jousted him with my flail.
edit: Forgot to mention, I was lvl 8 or so at the time (Wretched start)
For me I did it on foot because originally I was terrible at timing his charges/dashes and then when I finally did take him down it was more about learning when to move out of the way and when it was safe to hit - one hit at most at a time and he never touched me even on foot (the wolves helped of course). I tend to be bad at dashing on the horse away from enemies - sometimes my horse is pointing in the wrong direction and/or I tend to get hit more often, so when I’m on foot I’m more confident with my footwork.

How did you manage to get a +4 weapon while only having gained 7 sou-, uh, rune levels? I believe I’m level…41? My weapons are all +2, I think. Maybe I have a single +3? I’m not really sure. You can’t get beyond 3 at the smithing station at Church of Elleh.
Puh, I killed him on horse now. Was manageable this way. Oh my, I am level 24. I tried to use the summons but they died way too fast (not upgraded). Not sure if the Uchigatana was the right weapon but it’s the only one I can really use… lots of weapons I can’t use because of the stats. Hm. Not feeling good seeing you taking him out so early! Ouch.

You only need tier 2 smithing stones to reach level 4. I used this guide:

I’m pretty sure I was level 8 because I used my last souls to level up dex to 18 to be able to equip the flail. Meaning I had level 10 vigor, endurance, and everything else, really.
