The races in the Elder Scrolls games have always been humanoid. Along with breasts on females of all types, you also have forward bending legs on the cat people and so on.
Nothing new to see here in that regard.
Side by side comparison including two that we missed so far (Redguard male on the far right and Imperial on the far left):

I don’t think anyone is questioning whether the faces are better, but rather whether the world textures as a whole are that much better. As someone who is playing around with vanilla Oblivion right now, I see an improvement in Skyrim based on the screenshots, but not a particularly notable one. That includes video I’ve seen as well.
How much of that video that has come out has been on the 360? I was too busy thinking of how awesome it is going to be playing it to ask.

I don’t think we know and it also depends on how much time Bethesda wants to spend making optimizing it for higher end PCs. I have my concerns in that regard after reading Tom’s recent Rage post about how even the PC version benefits from using a controller over the traditional mouse/keyboard combo. As that is another Bethesda title coming from a traditional PC developer, it makes me think the PC side of things is being further marginalized. But that’s just speculation, and I doubt we are going to see real side by side comparisons until a lot closer to Skyrim’s release.
I think that the “look” of the scenery probably has a lot to do with their artists and is not necessarily any indication of what they have or haven’t done with the engine.
Either way, it looks and animates so much better that I find I don’t honestly care much. I just want it to be November 11th really badly heh.

I tried to learn how to use a pad, but nope… I can’t.
If Skyrim is going to need a pad to play, I will remove it from y “looking forward to” list.
I understand these menus are optimized for control pad, but I hope that work hard to make then work with mouse and control. The irony here is that the mouse is a better interface control and PC computers have more power… to get a worst mouse interface would be ludicrous bad, I hope that don’t happend.

Please note that I was referring to Rage when talking about the gamepad. I don’t think there has been any indication that Skyrim will have the same issue. I was merely using the Rage/pad issue to point out that Bethesda may not be as committed to their PC user base as they were in the past.
The textures seem fuzzier and more console-y in the mohawk shot. I’d be shocked if a console could get the quality of the others.

I may not be recalling correctly, but didn’t the project lead say at one point that they’d prefer to release media comparable to what we’ll see on consoles so that people are even more thrilled when they see what the PC is capable of? Rather than folks being disappointed when they see what they had to do to the console version.
Yeah. This was mentioned in one of the videos and/or interviews. Hard to say if the screenshots are strictly console.
In any case, PC users will have a plethora of texture replacement packs to pick from, but things are looking awesome to me thus far. I’ll be getting this on 360 for the kids and on PC for myself. I just need to avoid getting sucked into constantly fiddling with mods.

Looking through Wikipedia, I am not sure I have played any of the Elder Scrolls games. This could be the first for me which is why I know very little abotu the lore or what to expect. My sister is very excited about this game, so I thought I would give it a look, and it seems promising.
Progress!
About the engine, i bet it’s still the same engine in the base but this time more reworked and retooled.
edit: Ops, i didn’t see Sir Digsby post above!

That image just show again how bad are the faces in Oblivion.
Yep, there is a little jump in the technology, but a much bigger jump in the art side of the equation.

completely agree, but at the same time, if there were ever a franchise badly in need of some “sexing-up” of the character creator, it’s TES :/
in oblivion you can basically be bill cosby, a cat, a reptile, or an ill-looking person from the uk. or you can be any of the above but look like a blue rave-zombie version.
is probably more a tech limitation of the face creator, than poor artistic skills. IMHO. Seems you can create nice faces (look the NFSW image linked on this reddit page), but probably using something else than the inbuilt face editor… I think.
Don’t want to move the topic off of game discussion, but the Bethesda Forums were hacked again:

Only a couple months after the last hack, too.
yep, and the morrowind ones aren’t that bad, given how old they are now.
The Dummer and High elf look very similar on those screenshots
Heh, I must be having a where’s Waldo moment. I found the Dunmer & Bosmer, but no Altmer. Help?
