Welcome to the club. We can all do a circle jerk when it arrives in the mail by posting pictures of ourselves making out with it.

Hey man, I just spent the hardly princely sum of $30 on a hobby I enjoy and shared that news with other people who enjoy the same hobby.
Why dont you fuck off?

I bought the book too, calm down. That’s why I said “we”, and why I welcomed you to our book club. Also, I dunno if you’re paying for shipping or whatever, but Amazon has a deal where the hardcover is only $23.52 (in the U.S. anyway) at the moment.

oh sorry, the internet is fun for reading sarcasm and tone in written text and all that…
(and yes, $30 is with shipping)

No hard feelings, I’m used to pissing people off because of my social ineptitude and strong (often borderline contrarian) opinions. It’s not an excuse, I just suck.
I also have the hardcover strat guide pre-ordered along with the col ed. So there goes $173 for a single game. And as I type it, I’m thinking, “what if it sucks? What if the PC port is simply broken this time, horrible controls or terrible UI?”
Nah, that could never happen. But hopefully we get some reviews a few days early so I can switch my order to the regular copy if they’re negative.
You’d think. Instead there is a freaking embargo - the reviews can’t go live until 11/11/11. Yeah, wtf, indeed.

Hopefully this doesn’t mean the same thing it does in the movie industry.

I don’t keep close enough eye on the gaming industry review practices. I just figured most blockbuster games had their reviews bought and paid for.
That’s not true. Though I will agree it can certainly seem like it from time to time.
I would imagine we’ll get some magazine reviews before the embargo, perhaps even some PC reviews, so I’d keep your eyes peeled for that. That’s what I’m doing.
I imagine IGN or someone else will also have an earlier date through some sort of arrangement. It usually seems to be IGN that gets this sort of embarbo immunity.

As a disclaimer (and some backpeddling on that statement): I was being a smart ass.
I don’t want to give any reviewers here the impression I think they’re being dishonest with their reviews, because to question somebodies integrity with the work they do is pretty much one of the biggest insults I can think of, and I wasn’t really aiming for that. I know there are very rare instances where there’s a wide margin of difference between a reviewers rating, and those of the average player review, and there is that whole Kayne and Lynch thing at Gamespot, but I do believe overwhelmingly that 99.9999% (give or take a few millionths of a percentage point) of reviewers just tell it like they see it.
And finally, I apologize in advance for my participation in what will hopefully not turn into yet another gaming journalism debate.

If history is any indicator, then Skyrim will be loaded with bugs on release. It would be best to wait for a few patches before playing it. I am glad Modern Warfare 3 will be out before Skyrim so that I can have a nice long distraction while Skyrim cooks a bit longer.
Probably true, but if history is also an indicator, it will still be plenty awesome out of the box, same as Oblivion, Fallout 3, and (especially, in my opinion) Fallout NV.

Yep, I played Fallout 3 to smithereens right out of the box on PC, so I’m day one for Skyrim, collector’s edition even.
Sign me up for the circlejerk/makeout session for the hardcover guide. Granted it’s a birthday present, but I still feel entitled to at least the circlejerk.
Also, I preordered on the XBox. I’ll buy the GOTY all-DLC pack for the PC when it comes out. By then the mods might not suck too.
I’m going to wait for some reviews and user feedback (and maybe a sale) before I pull the trigger on this one, but it’s sure looking good.

My backlog is so big that there’s no reason for me not to wait for a price drop. But we’ll see if I have the willpower to hold off.

If I’m remembering correctly, this is the first full-priced non-indie retail game I’ve purchased since Elemental: War of Magic (D2D humble bundle discount and pre-order promo notwithstanding), let’s hope it gives me a great return on investment. Otherwise I’ll just be forced to slink off and slum it with Steam deals for the next year.
Is it sad that when i read that i thought “hmm, that affects the rate at which Magicka regenerates, as well as your total Fatigue.”
