What, really? You can turn off mouse move; I found it really playable with the keyboard.

I’m waiting on what used to be called DaggerXL to play Daggerfall. http://xlengine.com/
With luck it will be ready about the time I’m ready for a break from Skyrim.
Not that I’ve seen. When I finally bought Oblivion for the PC I was really surprised to find that it didn’t have good 360 controller support. (It makes playing Nehrim really hard; I just hate playing through the gigantic never-ending opening dungeon with a mouse+keyboard).
I played Fallout 3 on the PC almost exclusively with the controller though, and their controller support was perfect. One would think that this would indicate that they will have good 360 controller support in any game post-Fallout 3.
I’m sure Skyrim will have controller support equal to Fallout 3 and Fallout NV.

I have an option, but I’m going with the 360. I actually owned both versions of Oblivion, and found that they were essentially identical, with the exception that the 360 lacked the quicksave feature (which, arguably, made it difficult to try weird things and made me actually have to lockpick fairly).
The reason for me getting the 360 version is that it lets me play it while lying on my couch, on a huge 55 inch screen tv. And I don’t need to tweak any of the settings to make sure it’s running as good as it can… out of the box, I know that it will be running at maximum capability. Certainly, it won’t be as uber as if I ran it on a high end gaming machine… but it’ll likely run extremely well due to them being able to tailor it to the XBox hardware.
Regardless, different strokes and all that.
I assumed the move to a snowy setting was to avoid the performance hit of all those Oblivious trees, freeing up resources while staying within the consoles’ ability.
I think fairly obvious popular moves for the PC crowd are higher res textures, a pushed back LOD line and a UI that actually takes advantage of a million pixel screen 2 feet away, plus a mouse.
The fact these haven’t been demoed/mentioned at all (I think?) suggests to me these things will wait on mods. Hopefully that support is still there - I haven’t followed too closely.
Can I start a pre-emptive petition for the Jason McC Syrim mod pack?
I considered going with the PC version of Skyrim, but went with the 360 version (as I did with Oblivion) not only because of the comfy couch factor, but also because I am very unlikely to take advantage of any mods that might be produced for it. That is due in part to the likelihood that I will gorge on it for two or three weeks (or however long it take for me to complete to my satisfaction) and then not pick it up again until DLC starts hitting. In that amount of time it seems unlikely that any significant mods will be released.
Also, I get sort of paralyzed by too many mod options. I want to play the game that Bethesda made, not a tweaked out version of it. That is, assuming there are no huge, unpatched bugs in the 360 version. I was very happy that I bought the PC version of Dead Island so that I could tweak the FOV and sideways/backward movement speed, but I doubt that I’ll feel the need to tweak anything in Skyrim. Bethesda has yet to let me down on the 360.

This has been leaked for Xbox 360, apparently, so there will no doubt be a lot more information about the game available soon.
Which you may want to avoid or check out, depending.
If there was a way for me to legitimately obtain a copy of Skyrim early, I’d pay in excess of the $60 retail price.
So uh, just play it without mods? The existence of mods doesn’t force you to actually install them, it’s not as if your browser opens up all by itself and pop-ups flood your screen “hey big boy, come get the new all nude models mod for Skyrim!”
I get your point but if the idea that you could be playing with some mod and aren’t and therefore your experience is hampered by that angst, you shouldn’t play PC games that even remotely can be modded, just stick to the console. :D
PC version here. I don’t really use mods for Bethesda games, but I do vastly prefer playing them with mouse and keyboard, and I’m pretty confident that the game is going to look a whole lot better on the PC (especially since I have a new system coming this week).
FPS = mouse and keyboard. Quake 1 ruined other control schemes for me.
I will also want to replay the game later on with mods so these two items (and better graphics) leave the PC as the only option for me.
Your reaction makes me think that I might’ve overstated my angst about mods. Most of the decision to go with the 360 version was based on the comfy couch/surround sound/big TV combo along with some platform inertia based on my having played all of Bethesda’s games since Morrowind on console (Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3). All I was trying to say is that the benefits from the PC version, most notably mods, were wasted on me as I was unlikely to take advantage of them.
PC, but I pretty much get everything for PC if I have the option (having a reasonably high end PC contributes to this a lot). I actually tend to find mods for Bethesda games more irritating than worthwhile. After Fallout 3 I’m pretty confident that Skyrim won’t demand a lot of modding to be functional, which I did not find to be the case with Oblivion, mostly for reasons of interface.
Think of $60 as the excessive early access price. The rest of us will get it for $50 the week after :)
Maybe MP games should do this to stagger the initial spikes in load on their servers. Start at $70 and drop by $1 a day down to $40 say.
There are a couple of developers that I am going to be onboard with for the day one asking price no matter what. Bethesda is definitely one of those.

I’m watching a stream of the game right now; the guy is only level 3 and is already bored of the game he says.
But then again, he just seems to be wandering through the same caves over and over again.

Is the retail version of Skyrim a Steamworks game? If so, I’m gonna get that version, otherwise I’ll just grab it on Steam I think…

He probably doesn’t understand why he hasnt unlocked a new weapon by now.
If I formulated my opinions on games based on people livestreaming, I would have quit gaming years ago.
