Yeah, it uses Steamworks.

Watching him is too painful. He’s the kind of person that runs up to someone with a bow and tries to shoot them point blank.

I was really, really burnt out from Fallout 3 yet a livestream sold me on New Vegas, and ultimately I was okay with what I got. I don’t know. I feel like watching the right 20 minutes of Skyrim will be enough to tell me whether or not this is another Bethesda “massive” smoke and mirrors show.

He’s trying to get to Prestige level.

How else can you be guaranteed to hit them in the pupil?

The only thing that bugged me about the first 20 minutes of Skyrim video was the dialogue. I don’t dig it when NPCs try to get my attention by saying things like, “Hey you over there!” when they’ve been in the same cart with me for a long time. I’d rather the game present a default name option for each race and then use specific lines that include that name. I don’t think much about my character’s name while I’m playing, so I’d rather pick a generic one and hear more natural dialogue. Mass Effect avoided this issue pretty well.

The retail version is steamworks, however Skyrim unlocks on Steam at 12:01AM 11/11/11 in your local timezone. So if you get the digital version, you can start playing a day early.

Unless you wait in a midnight line or something, I suppose.

I’m really glad to hear that. So far every pre-order I’ve purchased that was either Steamworks, or a Steam-purchased game have always unlocked around 10am-noon on the day of release.

+1 on this. This is my plan. Plus I have $10 Reward Zone coupon from Best Buy.

So I will be waiting for the sale. (If it goes on sale after one week. If longer, not sure if I can hold out).

I’m starting to lose faith with this project myself. It’s awesome what’s he done so far but it seems like he keeps taking on more and more games without finishing what he already started. Better to just use DOSBox to play Daggerfall.

Really? You’re listed as living in the pacific northwest. Usually steam releases unlock at midnight pacific time.

Anyway, Skyrim is special, it unlocks at midnight in your timezone, whatever that may be.

Ahhh where can that stream be found? I don’t see anything at justintv.com

Skyrim will not go on sale after one week. I’d be shocked if that happened. Even lesser games don’t usually see sales and discounts that quickly.

Big titles usually get the midnight release, but a lot of lesser titles do not. Civ V didn’t unlock at midnight, for example, per a decision by Take2.

And where do you get that Skyrim will unlock timezone specific? AFAIK Steam can’t do that in North America. They most commonly do a midnight Pacific release, though Rage was unlocked at midnight Eastern/9PM Pacific.

And at the moment the Steam unlock is listed for me as 1 week, 2 days, 12 hours. Which would put it around 2AM Pacific.

Some dude from Bethesda tweeted it. Simple search will bring it up.

So if my computer meets the minimum but not recommended requirements for CPU and vidja card (I have a AMD Athlon™ II X2 255 Processor and a GeForce 9800 with 2.7 GB of video ram) will it run like absolute poo even with stuff turned down? Getting it for PC will be better since even if I buy for Xbox/X360 I always end up buying ES games for PC when the GOTY editions comes out but I really just want it to run smoothly so I can go nuts during the 2 week Christmas vacation.

Nobody really knows yet (or rather, those that do are under embargo). My guess is that it’ll run fine with the minimum requirements, since the same game also has to run on consoles, but if you’re concerned about it, wait until release day.

Hmm. I may just end up going X360 and then PC in a year or two for the DLC and modpacks like I always do. That way I don’t have to schlep my computer back with me for the break I’ll just play it on my brother’s Xbox.

It was over at the Justin.tv gaming site which is now called: http://www.twitch.tv/
Last I checked it was down.
