For my first run, I am now leaning towards an Argonian Thief/Mage combo. I just hope there is more chance for underwater exploration to leverage the underwater breathing of the Argonians.

I understand folks holding out for sales and price drops, especially this time of year, but for me it’s worth $10 or $20 to start playing on day one. A new Elder Scrolls game is something that comes along what, every four or five years? I’m not depriving myself of the game for one second longer than I have to. I can see holding out on yearly iterations of games like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed, but not Elder Scrolls.

Edit: My character will probably be a Redguard sword and shield melee character. That’s what I’ve done since Morrowind.

NO. I mean, I’m excited as hell about Skyrim, but this thread has to get shot in the head and then burned, for one simple reason: because this thread doesn’t explicitly say SPOILER TAGS REQUIRED or SPOILER THREAD, motherfuckers are going to talk about what the fuck ever they want to, spoilers or not.

I’m going to launch the “Skyrim: Gameplay Thread / Spoiler Tags Required” thread and the “Skyrim: Untagged Spoilers Here” thread on Wednesday, and stick strictly to the former where there is at least some hope of being somewhat untainted.

Ya can’t spoil 300+ hours of gameplay. :P

But you can spoil all the best parts of that 300 hours pretty easily.

If only someone would do some sort of poll on that subject . . .

;-)

Yeah, somebody should. Oh well, I guess we’ll never know…

some spoilers on features
A list of the Playstation trophies in Skyrim can be found here:
http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2011/11/05/skyrim-trophies/

Not sure if any of these were confirmed before, but it shows how many different groups you can join, you can buy a house, get married, and capture forts.
This isn’t hidden information, but . . .

spoiler?

There has been some debate on the official forums over the inclusion of marriage but the decision to not support brothels and other sexual content. Unlike Oblivion, Skyrim is being released as an M title from the beginning, but it still sounds like they are not even going as far as Fallout 3 in terms of the sexual content. We’ll know soon enough, though. And there will be the inevitable mods . . . ;-)

Thanks for providing a PERFECT example of why this thread has to be shot in the head, burned, buried, dug up, burned again, and scattered at sea.

SOME PEOPLE AVOID ACHIEVEMENT LISTS ON PURPOSE BECAUSE THEY ARE SPOILERS, SIR! OR WERE YOU NOT AWARE OF THIS???

Goddammit, I need to talk about Skyrim just to make it through the rest of the week, but this shit is really fucking with me. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Please consider retro-editing your post to wrap your achievement spoilers in a spoiler tag.

I edited my post, but at some point I don’t know how we are supposed to be discussing this game if every little thing is off limits. And if you don’t want to know anything about a game, you have to go into total blackout mode at this point, IMHO.

I have a feeling we are going to see Deus Ex all over with this game, with arguments about what thread is for what and what is signficant enough to require spoilers and what isn’t.

I was not aware of this. I am sorry, and have wrapped them in spoiler tags.

You’re kidding, right?

I mean, it’s not like he posted the actual achievements…

EDIT:
Ah, I’m guessing that he must have had the actual list in there previously.

No, he didn’t. He had a link to them and mentioned four things, only two of which might be considered spoilerish if you played Oblivion. Neither has anything to do with the plot, though, just things you can do in the game.

Perhaps when the game is actually released, we need to have two new threads: playing, no spoilers; playing, lotsa spoilers.

This thread will probably become “playing w/spoiler tags” and the spoiler thread will become “spoilers wide open w/no tags.” That’s what happened with Deus Ex HR, anyway.

But I don’t know how that will really work on a game like Skyrim, where it will be very possible for people to do radically different things outside of the main plot line. Do we spoiler every little optional quest/location/cool thing? But if it’s in a tag, how will you know what its about? It’s one thing to spoiler tag things in a fairly linear game like Deus Ex HR, another in a sandbox game.

My thought would be location-based spoilers. Oblivion example:

Spoilers for Anvil DLC Quest

Crazy priest dude!

So if you’ve gone to Anvil, or don’t care, you can click. If you haven’t and don’t want to know, you can skip.

And then everyone will post spoilers in the non-spoiler thread anyway. :)

I won’t be reading anything around here until I beat the game at least once, that is for damned sure.

Damn it! You spoiled it again! Now I know you can do at least two things in the game!! And it has at least 4 achievements!!

:)

I dunno, I think there are some reasonable guidelines:

 • Anything mentioned in the manual is fair game.
 • Anything mentioned on the map is fair game (so you can’t spoil the fact that a city exists).
 • If in doubt, wrap it in a spoiler tag and allude to it only in terms of generalities, e.g. “I was up near Solitude and I got my ass kicked by <SPOILERTAG> – anyone know what to do?”

Doesn’t seem too hard to me, but we’ll see. And yes, in a spoiler-tags thread, you should spoiler-tag every little cool thing, because those are exactly what people want to be surprised by.

Sarkus, I would have had no problem with your post if you’d just said “The achievements list was just posted, here it is.” That would’ve let spoiler-lovers click through without actually sharing any info from the list.

Edit: what Bowyer said.
