Let me know when there are 23 threads all fighting for space on the front page, like for Dragon Age: Origins some time back in 2009.

Oh I get that we aren’t setting any records. But I don’t know that we needed two more threads this early. And every one right now is largely discussing the levelling system, which makes me wonder what the point was.

SHHH, don’t tell people what we’re discussing in the spoiler thread, or at least use tags.

So where’s the ‘Skyrim hardware - upgrade or give up’ thread?

warning, don’t click me, this is about the skyrim endgame
We’ll probably have another dozen threads before we’re done. Also, shenanigans.

I don’t get the desire for a strategy guide in a game like this… The fun is all in the exploration and discovery, feeling like I’m in a living world. Having all the quests/locations/books/etc mapped out would turn it from exploration into a To Do list for me.
I mean, sure, I’d just as soon have a list of recipes for the stuff you can make with alchemy to save the hassle of trial and error, but I’m sure that will be on a Wiki a few hours after launch.
Maybe after I’ve finished the game and explored everything, the strategy guide might be fun for finding stuff I missed. But I certainly wouldn’t want it at this point.
Frankly, I get tired of having to alt-tab out of my game and hope it stays running/stable while I’m on a wiki, or on the 360 having to run into my office to check something on a FAQ - much better to have that stuff right near my while I play, in my opinion, but also the guide is a gorgeous looking book full of potentially cool info and analysis you can’t get from an FAQ simply because the author had the ear and resources of Bethesda while he was creating it.
And I agree, it’s best to explore blind, but it’s nice to have something near at hand when you do get stuck, or have a question, or for a second or even third play through when you want to start hitting specific things you may have heard about but never found on your own.

I agree, but I pre-ordered the hardcover because A) It looks awesome:
I mean, sure, I’d just as soon have a list of the stuff you can make with alchemy to save the hassle of trial and error, but I’m sure that will be on a Wiki a few hours after launch.
B) I want detailed spell/perk/ability descriptions, and trade skill details, which I’d have to print anyway. I don’t really consider this stuff spoilers, and I’m also not a big fan of looking for this info on a website, because invariably I’ll run across stupid spoilers in Google search results or on the site itself, on stuff I’d rather not have known. It will be nice to have it all parsed out by chapter.
Maybe after I’ve finished the game and explored a everything, the strategy guide might be fun for finding stuff I missed. But I certainly wouldn’t want it at this point.
And C) I plan to avoid all the spoilery stuff till I’ve finished at least one run-through. So although I’ll be buying it now, I won’t make full use of it till I’m ready to compare what I’ve discovered with what I missed, and I want some nudges in the right direction of where to find certain quests, not necessarily how to solve them.
stusser is full of piss and vinegar today!
Yes, he’s quite clever putting silly comments in spoiler tags. Right on the vanguard of cutting edge humor he is, ho ho.

BleedTheFreak, yeah, I either have my iPad or my notebook on the chair arm while playing on my 360, so I have book-like access to the FAQs. :)
The Oblivion strategy guide had really good chapters on character building, skills and abilities and spell lists, and just made a great reference manual to have on hand even if you never cracked the chapters on quest and area walkthroughs (which I didn’t). I rarely buy strategy guides, but deep RPGs like this and Dark Souls are an exception.

I’m sure this has been answered before in this thread, but why does Steam have the release date as 11/10 and Bethesda have it as 11/11?
My Steam page says November 11 (unlocks in two days and 9 hours).
I couldn’t disagree more. Yes, if you play the game “normally,” you should have hard choices and have to decide whether you want to focus on spells or swords or maces or lockpicking or whatever. But if you play for 100 hours, exploring every bit of the game and assiduously killing every bugbear you find, you should become a demigod.
Were you upset that Crackdown let you get all your skills to four stars?

Go to Coming Soon or the pre-order page. I am getting the Xbox version so I won’t have access to a pre-order Steam version.

I believe west coasters get it at 9 pm

Because it depends on your timezone at this point. Right now it says “2 Days, 9 hours” for me on the west coast, which is 9PM Thursday (the 10th). But it will be the 11th for the east coast and most stores. The Steam unlock is midnight EST/9PM Pacific.

Mine says:
Available: November 10th, 2011
This game will unlock in approximately 2 days and 9 hours
That’s about 9pm on Thursday for me.

OK that makes sense. Wish I could get the Steam version, but my son will share the cost of the Xbox version, so in the name of spending less money, it’s the Xbox version.
