kerzain, that would be true if I were getting mine through Steam, but it’s collector’s edition midnight at Gamestop for me. I plan to take a big fat nap from 9 pm to 11:30 pm or so, possibly facilitated by a beer or two at dinner, just to get the time to pass more quickly (and give me more power for making it to at least 2:45 am).

Then tomorrow morning I get a gum graft at the periodontist’s office at 8 am, and the rest of the day will be spent in a sleep-addled haze of ibuprofen, hydrocodone, and Skyrim. (Only “cold, soft foods” allowed for the rest of the day. What does that even MEAN? I’m guessing “protein shakes, applesauce, and ice cream”…)

But steam sure does enjoy FUCKING TROLLING MY ASS OFF, since now it started downloading, GASP, DAY OF DEFEAT update! Game which I NEVER played!

I immediately restarted Steam in offline mode before disconnecting from my VPN (CyberGhost, btw, it looks like the UK one posted a bit ago works fine too). That seemed to work.

What’s up with all the VPN stuff for unlocking a Steam game? I missed something upstream in this thread, obviously.

Since the game is unlocked in Australia, you can use a VPN to give yourself an Australian IP address, thereby fooling Steam into thinking you’re in Australia, and decrypting the game for you.

And I do the VPN unlock thing and of course skyrim now crashes to desktop as soon as i start it and it gets past the bethesda splash screen.

Hey guys, I was having this problem too and just stumbled on a solution that worked for me at least.

My sound device in windows was set to output at 192khz 24bit. When I set this back to 44.1khz 16bit it fixed the problem!

So to check, in win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound

Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the ‘Default Format’ it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.

I actually was able to set mine to 96khz 24bit and it works aswell, just doesn’t seem to like 192khz.

you need to exit steam, be sure you’re connected to the VPN, then start steam again.

I connected to the Amsterdam VPN server provided through VyperVPN (via Giganews) and Skyrim is now unlocked here in Southern California!
