I’m level 19 and I’ve only fought the one dragon so far, never seen one spawn in the wild, though I’ve barely touched the main story yet. My son is equally not far in the main quest, though he found a dragon and, while fighting it, had a second one join the fight… :)
I don’t know why folks aren’t happy with the graphics–to me, the game looks a lot better than Oblivion and is really very pretty. Ok, Skyrim itself is a fairly monotonous Norse-like place mostly, but it’s a pretty nice looking Norseland.

I like the strong Norse theme. The problem with Oblivion is that it stuck to a completely generic “DnD Fantasy Land” setting. I’d much prefer they pick a culture and use it to create a feeling of place.
Yeah, Skyrim really feels like a sort of fantasy Norway or something. Reminiscent of some of the areas in Age of Conan, really.

Just out of random chance i recently watched that strangely atmospheric art film Valhalla Rising and i’d argue that not a few of the tones and themes in Skyrim, but especially Skyrim’s musical score, draw inspiration from it.

Don’t think I have that one - but should I try playing without installing? Is there some documentation that shows textures are better without installing?

I’m loving the sparse music, especially when exploring the vast nothingness of certain frozen stretches. The emptiness, the subtle wind. Nothing to hear but environment and my own foot steps. It adds so much more to the experience than to be drowning in fauxfantasy tunes every where I go. I find music is best used in moderation, and only when appropriate, otherwise it grows to be a distraction to me. They pulled it off.
Yep Bethsoft forums Linky.
remove the game and clear the cache to start fresh.
Here’s a youtube clip as well. Not the best clip but you’ll see the difference.
Oh here’s a better one.

Woot, got the last one on the shelf at our Best Buy (had a gift cert).
Here’s the error I was talking about in which the character grips the hot end of the iron during blacksmithing:

Well you only have smithing of 15. Surely the animation improves as the skill does!

On the “WTF is with all the dragons” topic, I am getting the feeling that I want to do like Oblivion and explore the fuck out of everything before getting on with the plot. Only one dragon fight so far and I’m level 9, mainly because I have not climbed any really big mountains yet.
That does look pretty silly. Let’s hope it gets fixed via an official or unofficial patch at some point.
BTW does anyone have insight into my question above about clubs/maces against skeletons?

Okay…can anyone tell me or direct me to somewhere that lists recomended minimum requirements for this game. I played DA2 and Fallout:NV with no problems so I assume I would be okay?
I am becoming interested in this game after reading a review in the local paper. The guy loved it.
Hey, you’re only as good as your teacher!
“Wanna try some smithing? Go for it!”
“Er… What do I do?”
“Put metal in the fire or something. I don’t know. What? Do I look like I care?”

Hmmm. Any way to keep my save game and uninstall from the HD?

Wait, clearing the cache also wipes out all game updates for all games?
