I’m sure a save game manager will be released before long. There is at least one for Oblivion (google oblivion save game manager) that lets you set up character profiles and switch between them. But yes, I wish Bethesda would implement this in game.

Agreed, I tried it out and I thought the game looked significantly worse. Like I had the Sharpness on my TV adjusted to 100. Couldn’t uninstall that mod fast enough.

Anyone know where the save files are kept for this game by Steam? Not seeing them anywhere.

I got the CE guide and while I have not gotten into any of the spoiler sections, what I have read is way above average as guides go. Its great, but at 39.99 retail, it had better be.

Mine are in Documents > My Games > Skyrim

Skyrim is Fallout:New Vegas to Oblivion’s Fallout 3.

I have to say Skyrim is an amazing RPG - but - the UI on the pc is a bit of a mess. Whoever developed it needs a lesson in good UI design.

Or Skyrim is Fallout:New Vegas with elves.

Leaving aside that this is the nittiest nit imaginable to nitpick, I have never encountered this. Even when killed and forced to reload some ways back, I have always run into the same enemies and the same characters in roughly the same places. Outside of a couple dragon attacks that never reoccurred (and the majority of them have), what you’re talking about has not happened to me once in 90 hours of play and a whole lotta death reloads.

I don’t mind when it happens, but the easiest way for me to duplicate it is to die somewhere other than your last save location, and then fast travel back. The random encounters will be different.

Ignoring the rampant pronoun abuse, I’m kind of shocked to hear that Skyrim is apparently so awesome that people are complaining about the overly random random encounters.

How dare they be so random! Perfidious Albion!

Shouldn’t you be learning how to play SOTS?

You reminded me that I really wanted to burn a copy for use as a coaster.

Oh btw … a dragon killed my horse today. :(

I was running back from Saarthal and fearing the shit out of all the TERROR WOLVES for a little nice dramatic irony when I saw a horse killing a bunch of bandits.

A horse.

So naturally I ran up, stole it, and rode back to Winterhall.

<3 Skyrim

Whatever you do, don’t forget to give the horse his share of the cut. You saw what happened to the bandits.

My son has Skyrim for the XBox and I have it on Steam. Before he went to bed, he saw my horse and wished he had one (he plays a lot less being only 9), so I kind of gloated a little bit.

Shortly after he goes up, my horse and I travel along a river path headed to Windhelm when I see a lovely cabin. There is a garden of leeks on the outside, and all seems right. As I pass by the front, I see the front door is gone. I pop my head inside, while still on the horse, and I’m greeted by a bear! I’m a thief, and the bear has no pockets to pick, so I ride for my life along the river bank. Not being smart enough to go back the way I came, I soon discover that there is no more river bank to run along, only a massive waterfall. The bear was still breathing right behind my back, so I did the only thing I could, and try to get down the waterfall via the rocks that jutted out. I must admit that I NEARLY made it the whole way, but the last step was a doozy, and while I hit the ground hard, I survived. Sadly, my horse, that I did not own long enough to name, did not and crumpled into a ball.

Karma bit me in the ass for sure.

I got the regular one.

Mother of god. I’m kind of afraid to have this, because if one of my cats should happen to take an interest and nose it off the table, I’m not going to have a cat any more BECAUSE IT IS DAMN NEAR 700 PAGES LONG. I’m a little worried about the binding on the regular edition over the long term - we’re talking The Stand level of thickness here, and I’ve had paperback copies of that start to come undone on me (Wheel of Time, too).

Haven’t had a chance to review the content yet, as I feel like I need a solid hour to dedicate to reading about the whole character creation system and whatnot (one of the reasons I got the guide - my insane desire to do everything perfect is my biggest enemy in these games, but if I understand how the system works going in there’s at least a slightly better chance I won’t end up restarting seven times), but I will admit that I’m just a touch concerned about the readability of the text. The sections I’ve looked at have had the original Dungeons and Dragons 3E rulebooks problem where there’s so much text packed in such a way that it’s a little bit difficult for my eye to follow.

I have the hard bound guide, it’s gorgeous and comes with TWO book mark ribbons, which is a nice touch. Too bad they aren’t different colors though.

The content is incredibly rich and detailed, even well before you get to the spoilery/quest and map sections (which is only the back 400 pages with more than the first 100 pages dedicated to thoughts on perks, weapon and spell lists, and tons of information.

Probably what impresses me the most is the index in the back has so far had an entry for everything I’ve wanted to look up. Truly a marvel, even just for those who like to collect nice books.
