It makes it unclear why anyone gives a rat’s ass about dragons coming back, when there are already giants running around everywhere who could probably one shot dragons and throw their bodies over a mountain.

Normal and blood dragon breath can be completely ignored. Frost dragon breath can be outhealed. Frost dragon melee CAN do some damage if you sit in front of the head and it gets in big hits, but it’s still less burst damage than a bear or a two handed bandit chief so you can easily step back and heal.

Not to mention how easy it is to put n 100% resistance to the breath, and Nords start at 50% resist to the frost dragon.

Man, not to sound like a downer, but do you guys intentionally play games to try to fuck with the systems? I just play how I want to play, and if something crazy comes along I deal with it.

I’m not defending the broken systems (I can just craft a ton of iron daggers which give me as much experience as crafting orc armor), but is there a reason to try to break the game beyond seeing if you can do it? And if so, why do you feel compelled to break the game instead of enjoy it?

Just wondering. I never did the 100% chameleon in Oblivion either. I just don’t understand the compulsion to do it.

I’m good with the difficulty. I’ve never really been into powergaming the various broken Elder Scrolls systems so these games are still a decent challenge for me. That does not mean I get no enjoyment out of my character one-shotting fools from the shadows, though.

Odd though that dragons are down the difficulty curve. Dragons, I’m like “meh” because of their ineffectual attack patterns, god help you if you’re bounced by two ice trolls, though.

Yeah, double ice troll can ruin your day if you’re not on the ball. Those things are NASTY early on if you’re not the right build.

I try to avoid the power gaming, but basically that means I’ll have to sit down and come up with my own rules for how to use enchanting, which really feels wonky to me. I’m thinking I’ll go with 1) No more than 2 of any given enchant equipped and 2) No using alchemy to boost enchanting/blacksmithing.

Nope, I actually try to avoid it. Stuff like knowing that I can enchant +Alchemy gear to make +Enchant potions to make better +Alchemy gear I just avoid that kind of cheese.

Sometimes you accidentally stumble on something ridiculous, on either side of the spectrum. My sneak archer ended up being like that (way too godly). I don’t want to go through the entire game with things being that easy.

When it comes to certain builds being too good, I do have a difficulty not choosing the optimal one. The problem I have is that playing around with mechanics and character builds trying to find the most effective one (without cheesing a mechanic) is one of the big kicks I get out of RPGs, so purposefully avoiding them is… just not fun for me. That’s why I want there to be some semblance of balance, even though it’s a single player game.

Ok, for someone on the road with limited internet access (meaning I can’t read this thread much due to a connection that’s spotty), what’s the verdict after a few days of playing?

As good as advertised? Better?

As long as you’re willing to forgive a few really minor inconveniences, it’s probably my GOTY if not one of my all time favorite games.

MUCH FUCKING BETTER.

I die like a flea in a blowtorch when a fire dragon shows up, so I am bemused by those who find them no big deal. Gonna try out some warding to help with that, though, and need to find some more resist-enchanted items so I can take them the fuck apart and learn their seeeeecrets, and then heavily abuse jewelry enchantment until I have a set of necklace/ring resist combos for damn near everything. Then watch out you scaly fuckers!

Trying to decide between picking up the PC or Xbox 360 version. The deciding factor will be the load times i reckon.

Anyone got an idea on how much worse they are on the Xbox 360 compared to the PC?

I’m playing on the Xbox, uninstalled due to a low-res texture glitch, and my load times have never been more than 10 seconds.

PC load times are faster than that, though. Personally I would hate to play this game at 1280x720 on 360 when I can play it at 1920x1200 on PC, especially since it’s single-player. And then there’s mods, which I will surely make use of once the UI ones start to trickle out.

Its a great game in my opinion. I’ve already got 30+ hours in the game since last week.

Ignoring the things you might have hated, if there was anything you liked about Morrowind or Oblivion, then you’ll really like Skyrim. There is still a few niggling things out there, but I feel like this is the best incarnation of an Elder Scrolls game yet.

Weird comparison, the game plays in 1080p on Xbox and I’m assuming PS3.

The game may be scaled to 1080p, but there is no way it is running at that resolution internally. It is 720p if you are lucky.

I’m playing on the XBox after playing all these games on the PC in the past. 54" plasma and the home sound system + sitting on the sofa = very cool. If you think the graphics are going to be an issue on the 360, well, they may not be as sharp as the PC, but they are really nice (i.e. I have never once said, oh man, this game would be so much better if it just had better graphics! LOL!)

What i do miss - well, I modded Fallouts and Oblivion out the wazoo, but honestly there is something almost freeing about not worrying about searching through all the mods, etc. and just playing the game. What I miss the most about the PC is one key quicksave!

Change the time of how often it saves upon looking at your inventory, and boom, one key autosaves.

If you can move a PC next to your TV you get the best of everything. Better visuals, cheaper games, giant screen, couch.

I play with my tv as my monitor and play with a wireless mouse/keyboard. I started out with an xbox controller but gave it up after a few levels. Archery was a bit finnicky with the sticks (yes im a sneaky archer just like everyone else) and demanded the mouse… and now that I can use quicksave im not sure I can ever go back to a controller.

Where the hell is the soundtrack for this on iTunes?

It’s coming. Currently, the soundtrack is a$30 pre-order for the 4-disc (!) set.
