And on that note, Bethesda sure “did things right” with the new 1.2 patch on the PS3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk2SbJnsXFM

I’m sure I can see a perplexed look on the dragons face.

It’s a little underwhelming when your first fight with the big bad ends in a single power attack, just like every other “boss.”
There really should be some “Fall in line or I will burn you to ash” options when dealing with various “important” figures, rather than just being their bitch. It’s not as if they don’t know you can make good on it…
I did just make one npc writhe around on the ground in flames for about 3 minutes after they issued some moronic ultimatum. Eventually they crawled under a table in agony and became stuck.

Is this with “smithing/enchanting at stupid levels” build or something more restrained?
Also, Normal diff?
Normal difficulty, smithing but not super abusive smithing (no alchemy), and limiting myself to two +damage pieces of gear rather than the potential 4. I’d estimate his health to be about the same as any high end trash enemy. Unless master difficulty scales him more than other enemies, that’s still a problem.
If he’s anything like other high end versions of his sort, he only has about twice the health of a top end draugr, and you butcher swarms of those things at once.

“You and me, we’re the only people around who aren’t complete fools”
I am playing this game a lot, four days already where i play all the evening and in the end i even play up to 02.00am, two more hours than i had planned each day. So the game is doing something right ;).
But that said, it still have two main flaws for me, the mediocre combat, and the poor “human” element (npcs, backstory, dialogue, quest execution, etc) of the game. Some people forgive these two points because hey, the game is so fucking huuge!
And yes, it’s absolutely astounding the amount of content in the game, I agree. But that’s saying quantity > quality. I prefer quality over quantity. In fact, I would gladly exchange half of the game content for raising the bar a bit more in these two points. I don’t need a 250 hours game, being honest, I would prefer a better game even if it’s “only” a 100 hour game.

“Quantity has a quality all its own”
But we already have plenty of RPGs like that. Quantity is fun every now and then.

And so was Morrowind. Daggerfall? Yarr. After two decades doing this BethSoft still can’t spot things like weapon stats that allow you to instagib enemies, enchants that allow you to cast two schools of magic for free, dragons that are less dangerous than mammoths or sabrecats, stealth that replaces the chameleon suit, crafting feedback loop from Morrowind (enchant/ alchemy bettering one another). And a ui that, while not the worst ever and better than Oblivion’s, certainly sucks a fat cock.
Great game, amazing game. But holy fuck these mistakes.
My hope is we’re knocking them out one at a time. After Oblivion, I bet all they could hear was complaints about animation, leveling, and bland dungeons. Those are better now at least. Now the nerd mob needs to yell at them about the interface and game mechanics design to get ready for ES6 or FO4.

I’m not sure it’s accurate to call these mistakes. Bethesda are aware of them (some of these issues have been around for three games now), and have decided to leave them in. It may be a poor decision, but I have to believe it is a decision.
The poor PC UI isn’t a mistake. It’s a result of making the UI fit for consoles first and just porting it straight over to the PC.
Edit: Regarding the PC patch today, is it basically the same patch that got pushed out to the PS3? That thing is all kinds of messed up. Resistances broken, dragons flying backwards, etc…
