It’s still kind of a crappy console UI. Navigating the constellations is kind of a pain, the map should have been quick-assigned directly to the back or select button, and inventory management if about as much fun as a colorectal exam (along with the severe, crippling penalty for carrying above your carry weight - if I could just fast travel, I could kind of excuse them, but forcing me to micromanage my inventory once I start to top out - generally halfway through a dungeon - is not playing to their strengths).

There’s also the matter of the vestigial game elements that are left in. Like exposing the otherwise hidden statistic of level only in one school of spells, or all of cooking, which feels like the brown dwarf of skills.

I do like the mechanics of the game as groundwork for Fallout 4, though, which needs to be next, because that gives them a not-so-melee-focused game in which to play around with those mechanics, and if they screw them up, I think it’s safe to say that most users’ experiences won’t be too terribly impacted.

Yeah, exactly. I have a feeling that if you couldn’t create ridiculously overpowered weapons, for example, the narrative would be “enchantment is nerfed! Mods to the rescue!”

The UI is not good. I’ll agree with that. I don’t think it’s the worst ever, but it can be annoying. The rest…well, we’re back to the old “you don’t have to do those things” arguement from earlier (this thread? the other thread?). The game may be easily “broken,” but it’s also easily not broken. I’ve played it since release and would have never noticed most of the “game-breaking” things that people have pointed out.

A game that’s 90% there has vitality; a game that is perfect is dead. You can always improve upon the Elder Scrolls formula; arguably Starcraft 2 is a step backward from Starcraft.

My take is that you will not have a system that will easily cater to the gamer who isn’t interested in grinding versus those that do. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to get 100 smithing without making a cartloads of daggers and bracers. I’m not sure it’s fair to say the system is broken when we put in time to break it.

Like i said way before, i never hit 100 in any skill, in any Elder Scrolls game - ever. It’s just too much “grind” to do it. I’d rather spit out 30 levels of Smithing in one sitting after gathering a brace of pelts than jump like a rabbit in place for 10 hours straight to max Acrobatics.

Ohh… I was about to post “hey good job Bethesda, more than 35 hours and I didn’t have any important bugs or crashes!”. But I just had my first ctd.

But 0 bugs and 1 ctd in 35 hours of a Bethesda game is a big improvement. So, still, good job.

Are you sure? Did you pick up a quest item for a quest that you currently do not have? These are the items you can’t drop. If you have an item in your inventory like this and do not have the quest, then you are likely screwed. You will never be able to drop it and when you get the quest it will not recognize that you have the item.

All indications point to “yes”. I’m hearing this morning that magic resistances are now broken on the XBOX version. They knew for at least a full day that the patch broke things on the PS3 version yet still released to XBOX and PC.

Doesn’t matter how good the game is. If it’s fundamentally broken then it can’t be played. They need to hotfix the broken resistances asap.

Yes, some people do. Certain other people (for example, most people) “forgive” those two points because they don’t consider them flaws in the first place.

Skyrim offers both quantity and quality. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Let me fix that for you.

~
help “item name” 1 (or 0, I can neve remember, try both)
player.removeitem alphaNumericStringTheLastCommqndShatOut 1

And if you are super anal, write down the code and spawn it again when you find the quest.

Or, if you are one of those doofuses playing a BethSoft game on a console (suicidal) you could try getting the Steed Stone.

Ugh. That’s crappy news. At least they can hotfix the PC version pretty quickly. I guess the PS3 version can be quickly fixed as well? Unfortunately, the 360 version is going to be screwed up for a much longer time thanks to the cert process.

What does this mean?

All elemental resistances are completely non-functioning in the new patch. To the point that a Fire Atronauch(sp) will take normal fire damage and a Frost Atronauch will take frost damage. Unfortunately, it means your resistances also won’t work, so have fun battling mages!

Telefrog,
Sony has a certification process also so it would take just as long as the XBOX to get another patch. Bethesda is really screwing things up.

Has the patch hit yet? Set Skyrim to not update on Steam if it hasn’t.

Apparently an even better twist on that solution is to not remove the item, but merely drop it, so that when you pick it up it has all the IDs and flags attached to it. Haven’t tried this myself, just read it on the forums. Speaking of which, the people there sure are resourceful despite the endless setbacks.

EDIT: Here’s a thread on this.

Oh, well that does suck for the PS3 then. I guess the PC version will be the only one with a relatively quicker hotfix. You know, assuming Bethesda actually does a hotfix.

I’m a little concerned about the PC getting a patch in a timely manner, since it seems a little silly that it’s taken 2 and a half weeks to get the first real patch.

Hey, man! They’re busy counting their money!

I’m torn. Because I honestly haven’t done anything to myself yet in this game to give me resistance to anything, so this might actually work out in my favor (my workaround for wizards, dragons, and other particle effect maelstroms is potions and hiding).
