Oh wow.

Steam Workshop – We’re excited to share news that we’ve been working closely with Valve to integrate Steam Workshop into the Creation Kit. Using the Workshop, you’ll have free user content with the push of a button. The Creation Kit will bundle your mod and upload it to the Workshop, where everyone can browse, rate, and flag mods for download. You’ll be able to do this from any web device, including your smartphone. Like a live Netflix queue, when you fire up Skyrim, mods you flagged will be automatically downloaded and installed. Everyone here is really excited about the opportunities and possibilities this opens up for our entire community.

Now that is pretty damn cool!

Of course, it also prevents Pirates from doing their dirty thing :-)

Important Takeaway - They patch the patch to fix the backwards flying dragons with the flaming cards and that, you know, whole resistance thing next week. PC as soon as possible, consoles later on that week.

If you’re having vertical aiming issues because of vsync being off (or you set ipresentinterval=0) then turn that shit back on.

And a steam-integrated mod downloader sounds like buggy hell.

I am on your ignore list? :-/

Not as such, but I do have terrible reading comprehension.

A downloader like that sounds like it will help keep pirates from doing their thing.

Great to hear them really getting behind mods. Awesome.

They desperately need some way to do mod distributions that bundle up things together so that average people don’t need to deal with conflicts. If I can get someone’s config installed in one click, and have hundreds of mods painstakingly tuned and setup and balanced and tested – what might have taken that person hundreds of hours – HEAVEN.

Hardcore Skyrim. Action Skyrim. Realistic Skyrim. Silly Skyrim.

So does this mean I won’t be able to mod in DDD sized breasts and give my female character a dong? Or does Steam Workshop support mature mods too?

I always got a good laugh out of the ridiculously creepy crap people modded into Oblivion. Wtf?

Damn this resistance bug! I’m right at the point of fighting this crazy Dragon Priest who throws flames like a bad mamajama.

My health drops like a rock with him.

Very interesting news about mod integration. I too wonder how they’ll deal with the usual conflicts and shit from their legacy engine.

But it’ll be nice not to have to deal with the Nexus sites. I appreciate them hosting those files, but it’s always been a bit of a pain.

Maybe they’ll include “playlists” so poor Jason doesn’t have to do it manually, and modders won’t throw a fit when you try to make a compilation.

You’ll still need to deal with conflicts. File conflicts are the easiest mod conflicts to deal with, and the only one that systems like this are likely to be able to handle. It’s the ESP/ESM ones that require research and planning.

If you don’t want to worry about things like this, either go with a tested mod list like Jason’s, or stick to a single overhaul mod (and graphical/tiny gameplay change mods.)

I like that they’re committing more support for modding, but in my experience (see Sims 3) third party tools are usually more powerful, and installing mods manually is usually safer in the long run.

Also will be interesting to see how they deal with the deluge of adult mods to come.

Yeah, I’m kind of worried that this is going to cut the mod scene off at the knees–that we’ll only get a few “approved” ones.

I don’t think they can block people from installing mods outside of their system. Not without some major changes, anyway.

Nah. Their launcher system already enables whatever you want to be loaded with the game.

Don’t take it up with me, it was Razgon’s idea.

Sorry, Lydia overloaded my sarcasm detector. I take everything at face value now.

They could patch the launcher via Steam (stealth) update.

But I don’t think they will do that, they sound fairly enthusiastic about that whole modding thing.

They have to be. They’re releasing the tools that they used to make the game.

Seriously! I also appreciate their commitment to fostering a community, but those Nexus sites are fucking ugly and frustrating to navigate.

Steam Workshop will be optional and hopefully a much faster and easier way for modders to show off their stuff to a wide audience.
