If it’s going to be anything like the tf2 Steam Workshop, the interface is far, far worse. They’ll really need to step up the search options so that we can separate the actual mods from the millions of recolours and “hi look at this uber weapon i made it does 9999 damage.”

This is really the only reason I am much too lazy to ever test out various mods. Aside from the insidious game breakers, I just don’t have the patience it takes to find the good ones. I’m willing to pay good money for a prepackaged set of the best free mods, especially if they came with a self-installer.

Just keep tabs on the mods thread. People who actually do rummage through all the trash to look for the good stuff post about it there.

Don’t worry, Nexus will still host all the titty and hardcore sex mods you could possibly need to turn Skyrim into SkyRimjob.
With Oblivion, the main problem I ran into was that there were a handful of mods that were considered absolutely essential for fixing various things about the base game, but they were separated into a half-dozen different mods, they had to be installed in a very specific order because they overwrote files from an earlier mod, some needed to be unzipped and only partially copied over based on what DLC you had, etc… It’s tough to capture those kinds of requirements in something that tries to be a universal, automatic, tries-to-handle-everything front end.

Sure, but the main way I find out about the essential mods is through forum threads, posts, and the like, and those will give instruction on how to install, whether it be through the front end or fan site.

Ah yeah, deleting SkyrimPrefs fixes the aiming issue. Man, whatever… :)

Yeap, you put ipresentinterval=0 in there somewhere.

Wait a year for McCullogh’s definitive pack. That’s what I generally do. :P
Although, this year, I might actually get into modding some dungeons. Of course, I say that every year…

That is generally a good approach with any Bethesda product – wait a year until it’s patched and modded into greatness.
But you don’t need to do that with Skyrim. It’s effing incredible right out of the box. Sure, you should probably pogo-up the graphics if your machine can handle it, but you can skip the traditional wait for crashbug fixes and glaring gameplay-issue corrections.
I think this is the first time Bethesda has ever released a genuinely complete product. It’s a fantastic game right now.
Yep, the first non-buggy, polished at 1.0, without important great flaws to fix*, Bethesda game.
*:except the inventory and the default fov.
I complained previously about the lack of quality in the missions. I am finding at last some good quests, the real problem was the ration between the decent ones and the mediocre ones. There are… maybe 30 good quests, which is a good number, the only problem is that the game have 4 mediocre quests for each good one.

I wish the game distinguished easily between radiant (random) quests and custom built quests. You can often tell by the setup but its not always obvious. I’m never going to get through all the quests, so I’d rather be doing just the custom built quests and leave all the radiant quests in a separate bucket.
I also would like more categories in the journal, because there are a fuckton of quests. Maybe core quests / side quests / misc quests / radiant quests. And/or maybe “region” and “guild” category or filter, to organize my questing in the most efficient way.
Yeah, if the last patch was any indication, it’s actually the opposite this time around.

oh - this reminds me - I remember back in the day before the game was released, Bethesda said they were looking into sharing mods between platforms as well. i.e.allowing pc mods to be usable on PS3 and Xbox.
Anyone heard anything about that?
Is changing the FOV really that useful a change? How many have?
Yeah, I use FOV 80 - strictly better than the default.
It gives the game’s world more depth, and gives the player a wider, and more natural field of vision (you’ll gain more on the sides, too).
I’m on a 16:9 laptop monitor, and I use FOV 75; looks perfect, no fisheye effect. Other than that, the only thing I’ve done is change the ugrids setting to 7. I don’t think I’ll make any other changes for a long time. The game is fantastic.
Does changing the FOV disable Steam achievements?
