Nope. I’m setup at 85 and achievements still work. The only issue with modifying the FOV is the fisheye effect mentioned above.

Not pointed out in the manual (because that would have been handiy information,) is that the design just above the quest text implies what the quest is for:
Companions / Thieves / Mages / Dark Brotherhood have their own emblem.
The storyline missions have a dragon incorporated into the design.
Daedric missions have the Daedric symbol in them.
Imperial/Stormcloak missions have both symbols, one on each side.
Miscellaneous quests have their own emblem as well.

I think I had it both ways but … at the same time, I can’t imagine how that would affect vertical aiming and absolutely nothing else.
Thanks, I will try it as soon as Bethesda resolves the problems introduced by 1.2.
I guess I’m the only person who set it back to the default. I like the wider view the higher settings give, but prefer the in-your-face closeness and detail of the default FOV. I’m just pretending my character only has one eye.

Excellent - where did you get that?
Why does the manual explain so little? Are they trying to force players to get the guide? That stuff above about the symbols seems like basic info everyone should know. Also what the different symbols on the compass bar mean. Would have been nice to know what that means from the start.

Briefly mentioned by some anonymous reddit user, he only mentioned that he’d found a couple of types. In playing though, I’ve seen all types now I believe. You can also go back through your finished quests log to see when the relative last time you did a quest for a guild but just looking for the emblem.
Those are all screenshots from my quest log.
Is any of that stuff in the “help” section in-game? I’ve only glanced at it, but it seemed pretty extensive.

Quite possibly. To be honest, I’ve only glimpsed at that myself. I did go ahead and add those quest marker pics to the wikia page.

Havent been able to catch up on this thread for a few days now…and it took me like 90 mins of reading/skimming to get caught up. Lot of traffic!
I have to chime in on the Tom review. I just dont get it. At all. There is no way this game is a 7 on a 1-10 scale. I didnt play Arena, or Redguard, but I have played the rest of TES and this is so much better than all of them, even relative to their eras. And compared to other CRPGS, of which BG2, ME1 and FO2 and FONV are my favs…this game trumps them all.
I am hooked on Skyrim. Like a junkie, havent been this way in I dont know how long, probably never. I am getting about 2 hours less sleep a night, cutting my daily gym time literally in half, taking time off from work, you name it and I am finding ways to squeeze in Skyrim time. This is a masterpiece, the best game I have ever played and I am 38 and started with the 2600 and havent missed a platform since. I bought a 360 copy and PC copy. I bought my friend a copy. If you only play one game from the past 38 years, it should be Skyrim.

I’m at 72 hours now. Everytime I think I’m starting to get bored I fire it up and get sucked back in. There are still vast parts of the map I’ve hardly visited, major cities I haven’t spend much time in, and I still haven’t advanced the two major storylines all that far. The only game that comes close to this recently is Fallout New Vegas for me.
I continue to find the way they did companions pretty interesting. It’s nice to switch them out periodically - I think I’m on my 7th one or so now. What surprises me is how much they vary in terms of dialogue. For example, they all will comment on discovering a mine or seeing particularly interesting vistas. But some talk a whole lot more then others. The orc warrior I’m using now merely grunts off and on most of the time but the female warrior Mjall I had prior would start talking about her upbringing and adventuring days out of the blue quite often. At first I thought maybe it was because they provided more dialogue for potential marriage partners, but I’ve also adventured with other marriable companions who said very little so I don’t think thats it.
My only real complaints are two minor things: First, like a lot of RPGs there is a cash problem. Its very easy to cash out every merchant even in the big towns and end up hauling a lot of stuff stored that you don’t really want. This is particularly a problem when you are crafting to raise the skill and end up with sellable stuff. I’m currently touring the entire damn world trying to sell as many useless potions and scrolls as I can. It’d be a lot easier if they elminated the merchant cash limit altogether or created a money sink (such as New Vegas had).
My second issue is that for whatever reason none of the houses gives you the option of everything you might need from a crafting perspective. I own three of them now. All of them let you have an alchemy table, two let you have an enchanting table. None of them gives you a smith, though one is next door in one case. But the other two are quite a distance from the nearest smith. Its odd when you consider that Oblivion offered several “player housing” DLCs that gave you locations capable of full crafting facilities if you upgraded them.
I’m sure there will be a housing mod at some point, but its an odd oversight.
Less fan-fic and more of this. More musicians need to start singing the songs in Skyrim - the last part she sings in Dragon sounds better than I thought Dragon sounds in the game.

400,000 views for a cover of a videogame song is pretty crazy. But then the number of people I’ve come across playing this game is pretty crazy as well. I know of at least six people at work that are playing the game right now and whenever we talk about it on break someone else jumps in that we didn’t realize was playing it as well.

Tom doesn’t really review - he plays a complicated game, one part of which is writing reviews.
The review itself is actually spot on (imo). He clearly loves it to bits, but is frustrated about the persistence of Bethesda’s trademark jankiness.
The mark is a combination of pageview trolling/hipster pouting/professional contrarianism.

Does he love it though? I’d genuinely like to know if he’s still playing it and how many hours he put into it. Because at the 72 hours I’ve so far put in I could have completed the main quests but I’d never have seen half of what the game offers. I’m not suggesting that Tom didn’t put enough time in to write a review, but when you say he “clearly loves it to bits” thats a higher bar.

7 million copies shipped.
May I ask, in what kind of business do you work?
