I think it is damn annoying that you can’t block with a one-handed weapon and a spell equipped without first unequipping the spell through the favorites menu.
Good to hear about the patch.
Patch notes also say it fixed vertical mouse look sensitivity, but it already seemed fine to me after the last patch.
Patch 1.3 Notes:
General stability improvements
Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPUs
Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles
Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly
Fixed issue with placing books on bookshelves inside player purchased homes
Fixed dragon animation issues with saving and loading
Fixed Y-look input to scale correctly with framerate
Let’s see what they broke instead.
I received my beautifully-presented, 4-CD-autographed-by-Jeremy-Soule Skyrim soundtrack a couple of days ago. It’s great, although digital music has so completely ruined me that I am just stuck at the ripping and tagging the music. I can not recall the last physical music I purchased. Hopefully they remediate the oversight of no digital release soon.

The fastest un-left-hand-spell recipe I have found is favorites-key, left-click, favorites-key. This works if you keep the mouse pointing at the weapon you want to switch to in the favorites menu – when you bring the favorites menu up, the cursor is where you left it last time, so if you are always left-hand-switching to the same weapon, you don’t have to do any cursor movement at all. It is a pain, but I can’t live without my ironskin so I am accustoming myself to it.
I also find it’s totally worth the lack of blocking. My dual wielder’s whole mission in life is to beat the shit out of them before they can even fight back. Any fight where I get hit at all is a disappointment. I find this very entertaining since it’s nontrivial to accomplish, especially in group fights. It also really speeds up the leveling (and the exploration) when you are kicking ass that quickly. With fixed resistances, and my imminent light armor stamina regen perk, I expect incredible things in the next week or two.
For blocking with spells up, I think that’s baked into the mechanics. Aren’t the Ward spells the equivalent of your shield?

I tried something similar and found it quite annoying to have to constantly bring up the menu. I already frequently use the favorites menu to scroll around and select spells and powers as it is more reliable than hitting hotkeys - I’m using a bound blade on the right hand so hitting the hotkey for a spell that I already have equipped dissolves my bound blade. Why oh why does it not tell you what you have equipped on the HUD? I would gladly take the hit to immersion if it means I have to cast bound blade less, because that shit is LOUD.
Brian, there’s a ward spell but it takes a second or two to fire up. It can be too slow to block a power attack, let alone regular attacks.

YAY! My Skyrim hiatus has been torture (if you can call playing Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes torture, because it’s a fantastic game)
Dragons now use all Dragon shouts in the game, beyond mere fire and ice breath. So fun when they call animal minions.
Dragons even talk to you during a fight. The one in the first battle commented how much fun it is to hunt humans.

I wonder what their thoughts are on mud crabs.
I am predisposed to think that dragons find mud crabs nasty creatures.

Err, what? Do I need subtitles enabled or something?
Well, they sure do like to break off fighting you to battle mudcrabs half a mile away…
Of course, with their aerial perspective, they probably saw a LOT of mudcrabs the other day.
They’re joking, but if you enable ambient subtitles you can see the shouts they’re using. I didn’t pick up on that for a long time since it depends on how close you are.
No, I actually wasn’t joking! I’m indeed running with subtitles enabled, but I had expected that subtitles for dragons would show up automatically since, you know, players don’t actually understand dragon roars. Are they actually not showing dragon subtitles when you don’t have general subtitles enabled? That’s pretty shockingly dumb.

I guess I need to enable general sub-titles for a while. The only reason I keep it off is because whether or not I completely hear and understand precisely what it being said, regardless of what else is happening on the screen, I can’t help but look at anything but the words at the bottom if they’re there. Distracted by shiny objects and all that…

They just released patch 1.3 to PC users. Since I just logged off a game and Skyrim was patched. It was about a 60MB patch.
Since so many folks seem to be using the 4GB loader I figured I would point out that the full patch notes include the following:
"We’re also planning on rolling out support for 4-Gigabyte Tuning (Large Address Aware) next week for our PC users. Stay tuned! "

Ha! You American’s need to train your subtitling skills ;-)
The worst part about the subtitling in the game though, is that you sometimes have people walk past you when you are talking with someeone else, which means instantly cutting to an entirely different set of subtitles.
