I continue to be stupified by the amount of content in this game.
Holy cow, Bethesda :) Thanks!

Yeah I walked into Dragon’s Bridge to get the map marker, but my destination was over the mountains northwest of Solitude.
I did not stop or talk to anyone.

I’ve got so many quests going, when I click on an NPC I don’t know if they’re going to say “thanks for delivering that package” or “you saved my life”.
Combat skills, since so many companions are likely to kill enemies before you get to engage them. I don’t know how fast summoning gives levels but fighting as a regular heavy/shield/mace dude my skills just keep ticking up during a fight.
Like I said, leveling normally (no silly powerleveling of the tradeskills of course) you will remain ahead of the curve and have loads of fun, just try it.
That’s what I do, but I was wondering if that approach worked with a summoner build who just stands back and lets others fight.
I never get used to Skyrim console interface, interface in Morrowind was more convenient. Maybe somebody will do mod with the old Morrowind interface for Skyrim…

haha, even RPS has too many Skyrim posts :-D
I think Bethesda should find this kinda flattering - its shows an immense interest in the game from people
I’m playing a necro as well (on the side, only lvl 10) and I’m finding it very tough, conjuration being no where near 100. Was surprised digby was finding it easy until i read the heavy armor part. That’s cheating!

I’m guessing you are either going for a destruction/conjuration build or (lulz!) engaging the enemy in melee while wearing cloth rags… :)
My necromancer is built like Arthas: heavy armor, one handed/two handed (one handed is better though, dual wield is ridiculously strong), conjuration with focus on necromancy and tradeskills to supplement (not delving into alchemy but smithing/enchanting really help you out).
To use another WoW reference my Necro Archer is like Sylvanas: Light Armor + Archery + Conjuration to keep my pets (sabre cat and bear) and tradeskills (enchanting and alchemy with a minor focus on smithing later on).
The melee necro is easier and at about level 30 it becomes faceroll, the necro archer is more challenging but for me more fun.
If you are a Conjurer, regardless of being focused on Atronachs or Necromancy, remember that you HAVE to complement your minions’ damage but don’t be a silly git and go engage the enemy in melee with a puny dagger and wearing caster clothes… decide if you want to go melee or ranged, 2 handed or dual wield, magic or archery.
And the greatest tools for every necromancer/conjurer is Illusion. It’s dumb easy to level (spam Muffle) and if you get rushed while walking about in the early levels and can’t raise a zombie fast enough you can calm/fear the enemy.
I’ll try to get a video soon with a 10 man party, unfortunately I’m too busy to actually play in the next few days. :(

FWIW, it appears from the Bethsoft forums the new patch (1.3) to fix the resistance breaking in the previous patch (1.2) may have created a new problem. Some are reporting that if you use potions or items that fortify skills, and they take your skill over a certain level, your skill rolls back over to lower levels. e.g. if you had sneak at a very high level and used a sneak skill fortify potion or item that takes you over a certain level, your sneak skill could then end up back at very low levels.

If heavy armor gives no penalties to magic in any way, I don’t see why you wouldn’t run with it.
That’ll teach those Min/Maxers!

LOL! Well, it does sound like one of those bugs where some number hits 255 then, rather than stopping/capping, more makes it roll over to 1.
I’m pretty high in my Sneak skill simply because I sneak just about everywhere. But it would stink if somehow I had a Toe Ring of Boy Are You Sneaky that bumped my sneak skill high enough it was suddenly down around 20 again, LOL! I assume it would be obvious after a while that something was up.
Anyway, not nearly the problem the 1.2 patch had in removing all resistance effects (and I never let my Xbox upgrade to that one, but I’ll go ahead and get the 1.3, and thank you to the PC players who get to test the patches before we add them on our consoles! ;) )
SirDigby: Thanks for the awesome description of your mage build. I’ve been idly thinking about what would be fun next time, and a Conjurer/Illusionist sounds like a ton of fun. I like the idea of the crowd control possibilities in Illusion… Fun!
So they capped the memory limit for skill numbers at a single byte or less? lol

In my experience heavy armor and melee are grossly over powered, so adding conjuration on top of that would be insane. I’d hardly call such a character a mage myself, at least in Skyrim. I actually don’t think I’ve seen any enemy mages in the game who wear heavy armor. All of them seem to wear cloth for the most part which makes them go down in a hit or two from a sword.

In the old games, Battlemages wore Heavy armor, if I remember correctly - I always loved that concept.

Think that was Spellswords, at least in Oblivion. Battlemages IIRC didn’t have any heavy armor tagged.
My Dunmer Warrior is shaping up nicely btw, focusing on Archery, one-handed and Destruction with some perks (not the facerolling ones) in Light Armor, smithing, sneak and one or two in Block, has taken off after I reached lvl 30. Had a really rough patch around 20 when the game started throwing Draugr Death Overlords (which left me with ca 10 health after one shot from their bow) and Bandit Chiefs at my blue ass. Doing the Thieves Guild questline is fun so far. And wiping out the Dark Brotherhood.
Well… what is a mage? Someone who wears a robe or someone who casts spells regardless of apparel? I never really got into the whole “mages don’t wear heavy armor because it put silly explanation here”! Why not become a godlike being and rain hell while being virtually immune to physical damage? Under the constraints of the game, well, the answer is to wear heavy armor and the added bonus is that daedric armor is in my opinion the best looking set while the archmage robes… well, you kinda look like a scarecrow.
But yeah, word of warning, investing in illusion and conjuration breaks the game! If you guys enjoy a challenge just go with what you want and stay clear of the tradeskills and those 2 magic schools because by level 30-35 you will kill every single thing without effort while being immune to any and all damage. But hey, if that’s your cup of tea, go for it.
I even deleted my rogue character (heavy illusion + sneak + smith + enchant) because I could kill dragon priests in one hit and without being detected, same for giants and mammoths and the game suddenly lost it’s interest.

I noticed that Prima has a “Digital Web Access Strategy Guide” for Skyrim. Does anybody here have any experience with this? It sounds kinda neat, but I’m not sure I want to spend $27 for something I will need an internet connection to use and I would like a electronic version for my tablet and be able to read it when ever I want without the need for an internet connection.
Here’s a link http://www.primagames.com/games/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/primaguides/232.

Same here. A game where what starts as a mild curiosity of a cave turns into a 3 hour expedition that leads to the depths of the world and causes the loss of my faithful companion (RIP Lydia).
