Yeah, that would be awesome. I also want the game and the map, but buying a PC game on disc seems like such a backward step just so that I can get that map. Btw, is the map in all physical editions, or just the collector’s edition?

There’s a map is in all physical editions, but the collector’s edition one is fancier made of linen (type material) and more durable, whereas the normal edition just get’s a paper map AFAIK.

Gamasutra interview with Todd:

Its actually refreshing to hear a developer of a non FPS genre actually be COMFORTABLE with the game they are making and not having to justify the “concessions to accessibility” or “intense action” they are adding to the sequel (DRAGON AGE 2 I am looking at you!)

He seems to be very comfortable with the fact they are making an elder scrolls game and not a Bioware / Witcher 2 style story game. I like both, so hooray! I’ve played hours and hours of Oblivion, but never once got into the plotline.

What about accessibility – making Skyrim a game that’s inviting to people who might not play RPGs as much, and also the hardcore people who have been playing The Elder Scrolls since the beginning?

Honestly, it’s not something that we think about a lot, in that we’ve found that we’re getting a pretty big audience making a game that we want to make. We want to make it for whoever it is – even if you’ve played Elder Scrolls before, you haven’t played this one, so you don’t understand what a skill does yet.

I like this quote too, seems to show how they get so much damn stuff into the game:

We like to remain very flat as a studio. One of the reasons our games end up so big is we put a high premium on tools, and then we let people run wild. We think that gives us the best game. So the main thing that we try to instill in people is really the tone of the game, and then they’ll create content that matches that. And the work will be checked by lots of people, and it won’t be me all the time. It often isn’t.

Hmm. On the one hand, cloth map! On the other hand, the Oblivion map was useless. The Morrowind map was pretty good, though.

Where’d you find the info on the collector’s edition?

I thought that was for the preorders?

Actually, you are right and I am wrong, that is indeed a pre-order bonus according to this: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/06/23/get-a-premium-skyrim-map-with-your-preorder/

it’s a high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap, and will be available in North America and European territories. There will be a regular paper map included in all copies of the game, but if you want to get the premium map, we recommend pre-ordering the game.

Sorry about that, I just have misremembered, I honestly thought it was included with the Collector’s Edition only.

Still no argonian/elf screenies… sadface

You must have missed this screenshot showcasing the new Emergent Emotion system:

dragonshout BURN!

Gah! Kill it!

Quality-wise I was hoping that Skyrim would have something at the level of EvE’s Incarna engine thingie but I’m “okay” with what i’ve seen so far so I hope the other Khajiit skins as well as elf, argonian, etc, all look better than the Oblivion freak show.

And before you call me a graphic whore, it’s just that I found the character creation options in Oblivion to be so, well, exaggerated, it tended to spawn so nightmarish creatures.

Snort! Made my morning thanks.

This hideous character immediately made me think of the stoner friend Richie from Malcolm in the Middle who lives in his mom’s basement.

I’m normally a sucker for Collector’s Editions, but fuck that.

I was waiting for the collectors edition info to be released before I pre-ordered Skyrim.

Now I will go pre-order the regular edition.

That’s hilarious.

Yeah, that pales in comparison to the Witcher 2 package.

That there statue, um that’s a mighty fine statue there, Bob.

Yeap, yeap, that statue there’s worth eighty bucks!

ANY day, Bob. ANY day.
