Day. Fucking. One.

Amaaaaaaaazing play-through for a game not yet even released.

So anyone else pass on the cloth map when preordering in favor of the virtual tf2 hat? It looks pretty good, and depending how the hat ends up being valued, I may be able to sell it for up to $18.

And incomplete. The Skyrim set also has a Making-of DVD.

not sure if it was mentioned but the collectors edition with the dragon statue, is made from PVC plastic.

a mighty expensive piece of plastic it would seem…

:(

If I still played TF2 with any regularity, I probably would have done that too because it seems like a really cool add-on. But… I don’t play TF2 that much anymore.

Speaking as someone who thinks CEs are a deeply hilarious scam worth approximately 0 extra dollars, that’s an unfair visual comparison presentation-wise.

For people that seems interested in this weird ‘competition’ heres a updated version of that image

Can we start comparing all offers of anything against Skyrim CE? Because that would really be cool now.

The “Dragon Edition” of Ultima IX: Ascension was one of my favorite collectors editions for the packaged goodies. Fallout 3’s might have been even better, so it’s surprising this one is less interesting and substantial.

Re: pre-order map – do you get the cloth map if you preorder from anywhere, at any time prior to the game’s release? Or are there only certain vendors, and is there an expiry date, for that preorder? There’s no mention of any cloth map at amazon.ca, for instance.

On the US amazon.com it says…

“Pre-order Bonus
Pre-order Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and get a premium physical map. Bonus item will be packaged inside the game box. Offer valid when shipped and sold by Amazon.com, while supplies last.”

I believe it is supposed to be for all pre-orders through all outlets. I hope for you that its not restricted to the US only.

EDIT: I dug up the bethblog post.

The cloth map doesn’t designate certain retailers, and will be available in North America and Europe. The comments say Australia too.

I don’t even remember the Oblivion map included with the game. I just used the in-game map, and Cyrodil wasn’t that interesting to look at on a map anyway.

However, I remember looking at the Morrowind map for hours on end. There was a lot of detail on that map. If the Skyrim map is like the Morrowind one, I’d want to pre-order. But if it’s like Oblivion’s, then I don’t.

It’s a competition? The dragon looks insanely cool. No offense to Geralt but I know which one I’d rather have.

It looks like something from a Spencer’s clearance bin. Do you have a lot of bead curtains and blacklight posters in your house?

Regardless of how cool that statue might be (in that picture - for all we know it could be a hollow/very light/cheap piece of crap) $90 over asking price for a statue, a making of DVD, and an artbook is beyond loony.

I thoght someone already said it was plastic. 100 dollar plastic statue… I think not.

The Morrowind map is one of the best RPG maps ever made. I’d want to get a closer look at the Skyrim one before spending any extra money, though. I have no interest in the plastic dragon.

A lot of CEs are a ripoff, but if it’s a game that has good art and comes with a nice, hardcover art book and the CE only costs $20 or so more than the regular edition, I consider that a worthwhile package. Blizzard CEs usually fall into this category. I’d be interested in the Skyrim CE for the art book (definitely) and the map (maybe), but probably not for $150.

Yeah, agreed on the Morrowind map. I wish I still had it. I must have lost it in one of the moves I made in Seattle.

Edit: Here’s a scan of that map for those that haven’t seen it.

Loved the detail on the Morrowind map. All those tiny little caves and ruins were actual locations in the game, and due to the lack of a quest compass I actually used the map pretty often to help with directions given by NPCs. Last time I actually used a physical map in an RPG. Even if Oblivion didn’t have the quest compass, the map itself was almost entirely worthless.

I remember using the Morrowind map to explore. I’d look over the map, find a cave or area that looked cool, and I’d head on over to it. That was a ton of fun.

Oh man, that map brings back memories… of all the places I haven’t explored yet.
100+ hours into Morrowind and I only made it from Vivec to the area around Gnisis in West Gash. (but explored every inch of the map between those places, along the west coast).

Really wish Oblivion felt as big as Vvardenfell felt. So fingers crossed for Skyrim.
