They did it with Demigod, which borked it’s already troubled release. Kinda rough to release a MP-based game 3 days early before there’s even servers up.

i wish there was a way to get my copy from Gamestop early at this point since it’s already borked on date. :( bummer

Who broke the street date? Or, where can I get buy it before Tuesday?

From the Elemental Forums:

How long ago do we have to have pre-ordered to get the early download?

Before we start charging them tomorrow, for the midday window.

So, that would indicate that ordering now would let you get it sometime tomorrow through Impulse, but look at the Elemental forums to confirm.

Is there a manual I can read before release?

It’s also a noun in common fantasy jargon. Water Elemental, for example.

There was a manual with the beta, but it’s probably not kosher to distribute.

No, that’s an adjective for an implied noun, “creature”. Other examples: “the rich (motherfuckers)” or “a psychic (asshole)”.

Now you’re just making shit up.

Tom says Elemental is a dirty, filthy little liar*. Pretty much expected this, which is why I am going to try and avoid the game till it’s had a few patches.

I trust Stardock to eventually get it right, but I don’t trust them to do it on day 1. Or day 73 actually, but you know, eventually.

*He might not have the day 0 patch, but I would be surprised if it makes any difference - at least to the specific issue he brought up

Holy shit. That sounds like the final game is nearly unplayable buggy. :(

I think they rushed the release a bit. They should have just delayed the game to early next year and done more polishing.

My vote is that the coconut looking things on the trees are the Umberdroth Pack.

So what are the odds that all that is fixed in the day 0 patch?

Ouch, I hope that the 1.01 patch they have planned fixes some of those issues. I don’t at all doubt that Stardock will fix all of them as they have an excellent track record when it comes to supporting games, but it’s sad that they had to release it in that state.

Well, this is just delightful. Simply delightful.

I wonder if the maths issue Tom identified is simply a matter of the data being presented badly.

In his example, 50% + 25% =/= 88%. But 1.5 * 1.25 = 1.875. Take away 1 and you’re left with 87.5%, which rounds up to 88%. In other words, it’s multiplicative rather than additive: (1.5*1.25) - 1.

Mind you, Tom in fact being on 17.6 research points, or 5 times the square of 1.88, does seem curious…

At the top of his game diary , I think Tom posted one of the worst screenshots of the game I have ever seen. Was that image from Beta 3?

I have to say I’m also disappointed with the GUI (or at least this example of it):

One of the things that bothered be in GC2 was that information was presented in a confusing manner. This is the same. The number 9.4 is all over the place, but as Tom said you don’t know how it was calculated. Here’s my go at presenting this:
<armchair designer>
Production - Total 6.8
Lost library: 5
With School (+25%): 6
Educated trait (+10%): 6.8

Consumption - Total X
What ever is consuming X

Total - Y
Prodcution (6.8) - Consumption (x) = Y
</armchair designer>

Maybe I’m just stating the obvious, but looking at 88% and not knowing how it got there is utterly frustrating. I don’t want to look at the manual or search forums to understand it. the screen should be telling me this.

This.

What happened to the Beta finding problems like this?
