I noticed this too. If you start off by doing Attributes first, you’ll be charged three points for them. However, if you spend your points in such a way that you only have one or two points left at the end, you can raise an Attribute with them.
So, I’m wondering if the cost of raising an Attribute is one point, but when you select it you get charged three…and if it’s supposed to be this way or not. I’m leaning towards not, as this would put player created sovereigns at least a little more in line with the pre-made ones.
It’s powerful, but the real problem is, you can obtain them well before the “medium-late game” stage, once you know what you are doing. A “fire giant rush” strategy, you could call it.

Not sure I understand. Have you built a stables over the resource yet or are you saying it won’t let you build stables.

I think you can only get one though. Although that might be one per caster and it might have changed post patch.
Just to respond to this:
Ben Sones isn’t some random guy. We’ve been friends for years (heck, we’re even FB friends).
So yea, his comment on calling it an “early beta” really upset me. I acted rashly and I apologize for it. I shouldn’t have said it. But this was not me responding to just some guy in a thread.
There was another thread some months ago about Warlords Battlecry where I got upset with Tom (Chick) because of something he said. But if it were some random guy, I wouldn’t have cared. But it was precisely because we were are friends that it got such a strong reaction.
That is why context matters. I get flamed daily. I don’t care what Matt Gallant or whatever says but I do care a lot about what my friends say.
You always hurt the ones you love.
I’m not claiming it isn’t useful, though I’ve apparently been getting/chosing crappy techs in my current games. I’ve opened up level 2 and 4 adventure sites and little else. No, wait, some more goods sites appeared at one point (or seemed to). No chests or anything like that. Oh, and one “better” hero appeared, and I hired his ass.
I just find it weird. It’s not the “hey, you researched animal husbandry and now cows are visible” aspect. It’s that it seems to have a much bigger impact on the gameplay tied into one magical tree.
I’m probably starting a new sandbox game tonight (mis-planned my two cities and I’m having to w a i t for farming improvements in the second to build so I can make more huts in the first and expand it again, and anyway there has been another patch since I patched it seems), and I’m going to try and pay closer attention to it. I just don’t like that the meat of the hero activities is so closely tied into a tech tree right now.

My point was that all the abilities cost the same, yet one is significantly better than all the others in terms of damage AND range. One of them is situationally useful. One of them is worthless.
One unit, three abilities. It took 3 seconds to look at them and laugh my head off.
I cannot build stables.
I understand where you’re coming from with this, but Ben wasn’t really flaming you. He was expressing what seemed to be pretty reasonable criticism. Of course he fully explained what he meant when he said “early beta” later in the thread, which seemed to be the initial source of irritation and which I hope is completely smoothed out at this point.
Anyway, like I’ve said a few times, I’m looking forward to getting back to Elemental tonight. I’m really hoping the “Day 0” patch has smoothed the learning curve a bit in the campaign.

Fuck fuck fuck. Went to build a city, CTD.
Edit: Lost 4 turns.
Even playing last night, before the 0 day patch, I never had a CTD unless I Alt-Tabbed to the desktop. That could be because I never played for more than about 20 minutes at a stretch, but stability wasn’t an issue. We’ll see how it goes with an extended play session tonight. At least you can adjust the auto save regularity to take some of the sting out of random CTDs.
Oddly, I don’t read it that way at all. Then again, we clearly seem to be talking past eachother so it’s not a shock we read it differently. As …
I’m not sure if you’re being willfully obtuse or you’re just a very literal person by nature. I don’t think I’m reading anything into a post where you clearly blame the “sound-bite oriented world” for taking Brad’s statement out of context and sensationalizing it. In context Brad’s comment was asinine and his anger was misdirected.
Regardless, I have no further wish to derail this thread when it’s gotten nicely back on track.
… I guess I must be a very literal person. Something I never considered before, but perhaps that’s the case. Should you wish to understand what I meant in my prior posts, let me know. I’ve thought I’ve been overly clear, but I keep getting responses that don’t fit what I’ve tried to put in my posts. It’s a shame, but I guess we’ll both manage to get by, somehow. Fare thee well with the thread.
Are you an Empire faction? Only Kingdom factions can build stables on horses. Empire factions get wargs.
In the options you can set autosave to every turn.

You misunderstand me. I know my faction can’t build stables. But the game sees fit to tell me to build there, and lets me specify horses as mounts in the unit designer.
In the options you can set autosave to every turn.
Is there an option to stop it crashing? :(
Whoops, I fail at reading comprehension.
Sorry to break this to you, but apparently I have the only PC in the known universe that can run Elemental. And I ain’t sharing.

I’m not either, I had one crash right after patching, but since then… nothing. One crash in ~10 hours of gameplay isn’t bad… of course, that does dick-all to help out poor JM and others who are having the crash problem, sigh.

Another issue, but not a common one: I’ve defeated 5 out of 7 spiders. The two that are left are sitting 2 squares away, not moving. I just click end turn repeatedly to test and they don’t move.

It could be that he 2 spiders are outsmarting you: Are they on defensive bonus squares?
Who attacked who? If you attacked them you will run out of morale before they do, and possibly run away.
(or they’re totally braindead)
I have one of those as well. Not a single crash, including alt-tabbing back and forth.
