Kevin, I’m not guessing, here. I’ve re-read the thread and I’ve got Brad’s posts available here. I’m not pulling this out of thin air.
I feel like I’m constantly repeating myself. Yes, Matt has a problem with Brad. Brad knows this already. Brad even mentions it in his post before having a go at those people who are criticising the game. If Brad can see Matt as a separate issue to the criticism, why are we still lumping it all in together?
This thread is about a hell of a lot. This conversation is about you misinterpreting and now apparently not reading what I said (please note that I have now already clarified that I largely agreed with your initial post), but I’ll add a little more:
Saying Brad believes the game is “…the best work they’ve ever done” is actually quite a bit different from saying it’s “… the best game Stardock has ever produced … and there are certainly going to be rough edges.” Furthermore, if we’ve learned anything in the godforsaken thread it’s that context is important and therefore I included much of the surrounding post.

Fine. To my mind that’s a meaningless distinction. You obviously disagree. When he says things like “we’ve never made anything nearly this good” - even with the rider about rough edges - I take that to mean “this is the best work we’ve ever done”.
Because ‘made’ and ‘work’ strike me as being identical in that context.
I pretty much agree. For cheaper than movie ticket is worth a return journey to take a look at one of the classic strategy games. It has been more than a decade since I played and I have no desire to ruin the memory. I suspect the thing I didn’t like, AI, bugs, and grossly overpowered combinations will seem even worse in the same way bad acting, or plot holes annoy me a classic 40s era movie. However, if you’ve never seen it you’ll be amazed at all the things they did right with game.

I replay Master of Magic now and again and it holds up well enough. The AI isn’t great, but it serves its purpose. I enjoy the grossly overpowered combinations. You can pick one if you want to roll over everything, or try something else for a bit more of a challenge.
This thread has made do the following:
-
Love RPS even more. They not only posted very news worthy stuff, with reasons and links as to why, they then backed it up and stood by it.
-
Reinstall Demigod from Impulse. I feel kind of dirty doing so, but in my defense, I bought it before I knew the truths! (joking aside, I’m actually looking forward to trying it again after all this time)
-
Realize that Tom wants QT3 to exist in some fantasy world where developers can post idiotic things and not be called on it. I’m not sure why.
-
Also realize that I need more popcorn. This thread delivers.

Need to buy MoM from GoG. Will do so. Can’t wait.
The sentiment is good, but you’re obviously new. It should be a picture involving a dinosaur in some way.
Just an fyi in case you haven’t played it in quite some time -
Make sure you log into the MP servers at least once. Doing so unlocks two extra demigods which you can then *forever more use in MP or SP.

- defined as “however long that install lasts on your hard drive”

I so wanted Elemental to have crazy powerfull spells like MoM , and I hope it will, eventually…
I don’t think there was any need for redemption, but, yes, that’s quite a good dinosaur picture.
No, sir. That is the very best dinosaur picture.

I have seen a lot of dinosaur pictures here at QT3. I am inclined to agree with you.

I like many of the ideas in the game, but I’m disappointed in the tactical combat- it plays out too slowly, and there isn’t enough diversity of troops/attacks and so not enough decisions. In contrast, MoM had flying units, invisible units, undead, etc with attacks and spells good against each type. The crashes and inconsistent interface can and probably will eventually be fixed, long term I’m more worried about the combat.

If it’s any consolation, no one likes tactical combat as it currently stands, including Stardock. It’s miles beyond where it was in Beta but it’s got a looooooong way to go.
