I will NOT be ceasing my postings on other forums. The guys on Qt3 and Octopus Overlords and elsewhere are my friends. I’m no more going to stop posting there then I would stop going out with my friends to movies and other “public places” where, heaven forbid, someone datamining my comments might find a “gotcha moment”. Those people are my friends both on the forums and outside the forums. Interacting with you guys is a major reason I like making games in the first place.

To those reviewing the game: I would urge you to review the game prior to v1.1. I say this because v1.05 (the release day version) is the version of the game that was originally released and if that version of the game is considered flawed then my view is that Stardock should suffer the consequences for that. We appreciate the kindness and patience many people have shown. I just think game studios, including Stardock, need to be conscious of what they release and not expect to “patch themselves out of trouble”. I do believe Elemental is, by far, the best game we’ve ever made but I also agree with most of the criticisms I’ve read too. The state of PC entertainment has changed since 2006 (when we released GalCiv II) and it is our responsibility to stay with the times.
You gotta give Brad credit where credits due. We all f-ck up, but most of us don’t stand up and ‘take it like a man’* Kudos Mr. Wardell.

- sorry for the chauvenistic statement, but its all that fit.
What kind of horseshit is that? The release day version is the one that was shipped to stores - v1.0. That’s the one that should be reviewed by virtually every magazine’s standards. “Hey, if the version of the game after two patches is considered flawed then my view is that Stardock should suffer the consequences for that.” What a bunch of baloney. The version that should be reviewed is the one out of the box and I find it less-than-honorable to seemingly lobby to get a patched version reviewed instead by trying some revisionist Jedi Mind trick.

That caught my eye too, ritual spells perhaps?

It’s ‘hit me as hard as you like - but please, not in the junk.’
Personally I have no problem with that. His mea is pretty well culpa’d.
Why would I do that when I am very much enjoying the game.
There are no time limits on support for the game, as that post from Brad mentioned we plan to support Elemental for a very long time.
Maybe since we deserve a personal touch in his blog we also deserve a personal touch as people who have bought his game. While I didn’t expect Elemental to be perfect by any means, I didn’t expect the released version to be in such a state.
Brad, do you mind being more detailed in what your changing for the 1.1 patch?

Hey Island Dog-
Being the one who first posted the ad, I got it, that’s why I said the marketing guys worded it funny. I’m sure most people round here see it that way also. It’s more semantics than anything else.

My wife spent the whole game across the map exploring and there were kids too.

Since they’re gonna eventually make a meatier tutorial available, that’s when I’ll start playing the game.

I guess that makes us both “grognards” for Stardock.
I got pretty far today, farther than I’d ever got before, then it CTD’d and I had no save available. So. I’ve uninstalled and I’ll be asking for a refund. Trash. Good luck all.

Did you turn off autosave? It defaults to saving every few turns, and it keeps two autosaves available.
I thought 1.05 was the “day 0” patch? What is wrong with reviewing that? Who does not patch their game after a gamestore purchase?
BTW, I’m playing 1.05 since I don’t want to lose a game I’m enjoying by updating and it is fine on my system except when loading a save in game and the occassional fog of war bug, which I autobattle out of…
A great many people do not patch their games after release. Well normally, but I think Elemental first requires a 1 time validation by Impulse which would then also update it. So I don’t really see the issue then if there is only a vanishingly small chance that someone would play the pre-1.05 if they picked it up on the actual release date as opposed to the broken street date.
After trying this game at my friend’s house, I love it! I was not sure since some people reported problems but man I think this is a great game. I am surprised how many people had complaints, it reminds me of a mix between civilization and heroes of might and magic. I guess a lot of the complaints were just on release because it played fine for us with 1.06. I can only imagine how good this one will get, it has HUGE potential for growth and expansion.

The reviewers, like everyone else, want to produce quality. And probably is in his mind the idea that reviewing something broken* is not a good idea when a simple update (or 3) will let the reviewer write a article describing more what people want to know.
*like not being able to play, because a incompatibility of his video card with a whole subsystem of the game resulting on the whole screen going white.

Elemental can be a more refined game. And with mods will probably be.
I occur to me that adding a trait “zombie” or “vampire” to the game can make things more interesting, and works somewhat like religion in other
civi-like games. After Kings Bounty, is pretty much obligatory to have a zombie wife.

Or maybe add wheater, with Winter, Summer, … maybe even make it work somewhat like the popular “A Song of Ice and Fire” with winter that last years. And a “barbary” type called “Others”, that need you to obtain and use obsidian, and only spawns on the north map. Hell… recreating the map of “A Song of Ice and Fire” is probably possible. It will be fun to have all the characters of the books as NPC’s on the city giving bonuses.
