Surely if anything deserves a ban, coming to Q23 and registering strictly to harass and stalk a dev should be that “anything”.

On a not-tangentially related side note, can someone tell me where the ignore functions are in the control panel?

That’s a bit of a stretch. If they’re not scared off by vendettas and the media quoting them, I doubt people using this thread to complain about specific issues they have with the way they’ve been treated will scare anyone off.

Or Brad could just not act like a shit. That seems to be a recurring theme.

I will stop posting my experiences with the game and Stardock as requested.

My final advice is, BEWARE! I know of two other beta testers who were also banned for being critical of the game and its “release readiness” (and as proven by the release dramas, rightly so). If you highlight faults in any Stardock game, you run the risk of being banned from their forums. (The game still runs and I can still connect to Impulse for updates and the mod community, so it’s not a Spore type banning where the game was rendered unplayable if you were forum banned there).

My personal opinion is you need to stroke the ego, not try to improve the game.

That’s unfortunate. In that case, I’ll keep the game, and I’ll stop buying anything by Stardock and I won’t purchase anything else via Impulse. They’re small-fry enough for me not to give a toss.

I’d rather developers not come post on a forum if they plan to use it to feed the readers bullshit like this so they can sell some more pre-orders. And nobody should be so desperate to interact with a game developer that he or she would tolerate such blatant hucksterism as part of the bargain.

Huh? What exactly about that line strikes you as hucksterism? Do you really doubt that people at Stardock were working overtime to address the many issues?

Oh, it went on to talk about how it was because they were “addicted” to coding for the game, and not, you know, because the game wasn’t finished. My bad. The “even though we went gold” part should be an indicator, though.

I guess you missed all the 4AM Dev Journal updates and stuff? I don’t have a doubt they were having to be kicked out of the building, the one thing Stardock doesn’t lack when it comes to Elemental is passion for the game.

I think it might be time for another:

I’m not doubting that they were working overtime, I’m doubting the part where it’s said that the game was finished and they were working overtime merely out of habit.

He said they went gold, which they did. Why exactly are you making an issue out of a statement like that?

Thank you. It is time for candor, honesty and authenticity. Brad was just being authentic. There is probably a lot of broken press out there. If he led a big company, he would likely have encountered more.

Brad didn’t say “If you don’t like the game, don’t buy it”. That’s nonsensical. He told people who’d already bought the game not to buy any further Stardock games if they thought it was unfinished.

It’s a very different argument. “Don’t like it, don’t buy it” only applies when you’re in a situation to determine quality or preference - i.e. with a demo. Not when you’ve preordered the thing and in some cases can’t refund it.

True, true

I can’t tell whether you’re being serious or not, and I don’t mean that in a jokey way. I really can’t tell.

I look forward to the Elemental Complete collection, with the expansions and all fixes, in about 2 years. Until then… Civ 5 and Rock Band 3! Woot!

No, Brad was jerking his knee in an emotional reaction to fair criticism that dared question what the entire gaming world now wonders: what the f*ck was he thinking when he thought Elemental was fit to be released last week? Nym knows not. Nym, however, does know there’s a clear pattern here in recent years, despite lots of lip service being paid to ‘gamers’ rights’.

Authentic is not the word I would use to describe what appears to have transpired on this forum:

What do you get if you put two Gallants and Bradley Wardell’s new novel together?

According to Stardock, an internet smear campaign!

How dare you use his own words against him!
