My ignore list fluctuates for the same reason. The people I put on ignore are really worth getting rid of :)
Anyway, back on topic: Brad’s post gives me hope.
P.S.: Wanna hire an asshole? I’m brutally honest, and can be a real dick to developers!
We’ll need more than hats to dress up well!

Looks like Brad updated the journal with a new post:
Topics include:
Enabling multiplayer.
Improving the AI.
Game Mechanic Changes.
Magic System Changes.
General UI.
Performance, Compatibility, Memory
None of this makes any sense.

Over time you may notice fewer and fewer people responding to you.
Whether you should count this as a victory or a loss is your choice.
The PR lady said (paraphrasing), "here is review code, but wait for the patch, we are “cranking” out “substantive improvements”. In other words, please oh please don’t review what we sent you.
Meanwhile, at about the same time, Brad posted in this thread about how the game had gone gold but the developers were still working on it, and he had to make them go home. In other words, the game is done done, developers don’t have to work overtime on anything, but they are anyway because they’re diligent (he used the word “addicted”).
Is that more clear? Unless you were referring to how the stories conflict, in which case I agree, it doesn’t make sense. However, it does make sense when you realize that saying “I truly wish I could ascribe Elemental’s launch to cynical greed or something. Cynical greed beats out pathetic incompetence any day.” is way too melodramatic.
I mean, “Cynical greed beats out pathetic incompetence any day.” That isn’t even right! Does anybody think Brad would come off better PR-wise if he admitted that he shipped now instead of later because it improves his cash flow?
Please don’t feed the troll.

So it appears he was serious about the ‘massive consequences’
:\
Lots of luck to anyone who was let go.
Laying people off while he’s still on vacation…
Absolutely best of luck to them. Hard to say how much was due to the state of the game as opposed to the expected round after a major release (reports from ex-employees right after they lose their jobs have a tendency to be somewhat unreliable), but I suppose time will tell.

He made a post today (linked somewhere higher in the thread) stating that he was back. Whether he was in his office or not I can’t say.

Actually I may be wrong, but isn’t it kind of common for companies to shed some personnel after a game release? Excess art crew who were brought on for the development, etc.

Well apparently they don’t want to discuss the veracity of the report on the forums over there as my post asking if there was any truth to it was just nuked.
Edit: now it has reappeared.
Yes, it is. That report is implying there was possibly more to it, but we don’t know.
Yeah, I’m not sure many companies exist that enjoy discussing layoffs they just implemented in the last 24 hours, planned or otherwise.
