Except perhaps for AI, RPGs aren’t necessarily all that less complex than 4x strategy games. Depending on the RPG, I’d gather they can actually be harder, with more elements to juggle. With that in mind, it might be a good thing that Stardock has to take some time to reasess its goals and processes because given the state Elemental’s mechanics are in and the evident quality of the book, those are two of the central pieces of the genre.
Slikster, the fact that you no longer have crashes with the game doesn’t mean others aren’t having the problem.
Also, a lot of people here and in other forums, almost all the reviewers and, you know, the head honcho of Stardocks himself has stated that the game launched in a really bad state. Considering that Brad himself has admitted it, big time, and the studio is already suffering for it, don’t you think it’s a bit silly to say it’s all a “smear campaign”?
Getting personal on Brad it’s of little elegance of course, and continuing to do so over and over again is borderline ridiculous. But the criticism on Elemental is fair game.
Also, I REALLY wish Matt isn’t the punch line. Talk about disappointing.
I think the implication is that in light of open registration you seem to be holding Angie’s posting privileges hostage.
I do not appreciate being publicly made into a bargaining chip. Ban the IP or not, but please do not hang me over his head for the whole forum to see.
Ah, right. I guess I was thinking of it more as an appeal to Matt’s sense of decency, but that’s a fair interpretation. Not really how I intended it, though.
I wouldn’t have normally thought twice about clicking on the IP addresses to shut them down, but it occurred to me that Angie posts from at least one of those IP addresses. Surely Matt knows how bans work, and surely he knows that I can see his alt accounts. So surely he knows that Angie could get caught up in the bans if I get tired of closing each account individually (he’s got about ten of them at this point).
But, yeah, I guess it comes across that way. What I meant was more like: For fuck’s sake, Matt, go play somewhere else, because I came this close to inadvertently shutting down your wife’s account before it occurred to me that I probably want here around here more than you do.

Yeah. It’s like figuring out a who-done-it during the preface. :(

Matt has forgotten that you never go full Huffman.
Again, that’s not what I intended. I was just reminding him that if he keeps registering and using alt accounts, the easiest way to deal with it would have repercussions beyond his own posting. If he doesn’t care, that’s between him and anyone else affected. So I’m asking him to stop using alt accounts. I’m only going to play whack-a-mole for so long before shutting down the IP addresses. Which would suck, because I like having you around.

Yeah, this was like the twist ending of The Happening.
Man, this thread is starting to bum me out. For the love of all that is holy someone please post more dino pics!
In a perverse way, the reveal of Punch Line is like hope for humanity.
There aren’t obsessed zealots everywhere you look. Rather, it’s just the same obsessed zealot over and over again.
It is amazing to see obsession first hand, though. How a long-term member of a community (yes, even an internet forum) could show such blatant disdain for the rest of that community is amazing.

I disagree a bit because I think the balancing is easier and the tactical options are more manageable in RPGs. However, you make a good point. I didn’t mean to suggest that the RPG should be coming out soon or should continue in light of what’s happening with Elemental. I was just lamenting the loss of a potential RPG because I do that pretty much any time I see it happen, regardless of reasons.
