Yeah, I’m bummed by this news as well.
I’m not a fan of Stardock, and I’ve hated my interactions with their customer service any time I’ve had to deal with them, and I never buy any games from Impulse.
But, the fact remains that they are one of the few companies that still make the kinds of games I love playing. So it’s with a sinking feeling that I’ve been reading about how all this has played out. And Stardock employees losing their jobs in this economy in Michigan? My heart goes out to them. I hope they land on their feet.
And like Robert, I’m mostly sad that this is happening to a company that makes the kinds of games I want to play. I might not like way they treat their customers, or how they spin their “Gamer Bill of Rights” B.S., but it’s still tough to see them fail in this way. I hope they are able to recover from this.
I don’t know what some of you guys are going on about, this is the best thread on the entire internet.
Was there ever any doubt about that? Talk about being completely transparent…
This thread is really the embodiment of everything that is bad about the internet and should be locked and put in a hall of shame. Everything in it is terrible and dirty and ought to be not mentioned out loud again. The hype, the betas (which aren’t for fun), Brad’s delusion of being finished, the nerd-rage dog-pile, the acrimony for people who don’t have trouble with the game, the single-use posters coming here because it was the place to hate/defend Brad/SD/Elemental, the journalism or the lack thereof, the white-knighting, Matt’s being driven over the edge into full-on cyberstalking, and a number of people dragging a P&R fight all over the internet.
This thread is the thing about which the adults look at each other furtively around the holiday dinner table when the kids bring it up and then try to change the subject. No one’s best moment is here.
Angie, do us a favor: never, ever post the other pictures of whatever comic that is.
The slash possibilities therein are endless and deeply scarring. I do not want to know how that story plays out.
Re: Stardock. I really want to see these guys get a bit of financial support insofar as I really like a lot of their ideals and habits as a company (Kryo, Boogie, and the others on IRC are some of the coolest dudes I’ve ever encountered). … but I also don’t want Brad/et. all to feel rewarded for what is really, really sloppy work on this title. . . but I do want them to feel like it’s worthwhile to continue working on it to improve it. . . but I don’t want to encourage them to continue flouting their own Bill of Rights. . .
It’s enormously confusing.
And I very seriously believe approximately 40% of the posters in this thread weren’t held enough as children. Jesus Christ people, see a shrink or get a cat or something–cheer up!

This is exactly how I feel. I am a Stardock fan. They make the type of game I enjoy (TBS), and their DRM stance is consumer-friendly. I want them to succeed, and I want Elemental to eventually become the game it can be.
In the meantime, I have plenty of other things to keep me occupied. Heck, I just reinstalled Morrowind :)
Dinosaurs haven’t worked in a long time.
For them to work again, we’d all have to use uninteresting pictures of dinosaurs instead of finding funny ones and commenting on them. Funny ones keep people reading, when the point was to render the thread unreadable.
So we need something suitably boring to use instead. How 'bout dirt?

Maybe if it was a pile of dino shit.

Trouble with the dinosaurs was compounded also by a lot of the single purpose posters coming here without realising the attempts to kill the thread kindly by way of Dinos. But you know, reading back a page or two, I have to agree with JM, despite my own wishes with this thread being locked, it does currently keep the rabble out of the single purpose gameplay thread.
That is one big pile of dirt. /Jeff Goldblum

So, anyone want to argue that Matt(with two freeking T’s)was just misunderstood?
No.
I’ve been watching this thread (and generally avoiding it), and Matt’s behavior goes beyond the pale, so to speak.

Go back to the Stardock forums, troll. We don’t want you here.

I’d like to argue that you should get the fuck out of the forum and then we might be able to put this behind us.

So what you are saying is: “You don’t share our opinions, so we don’t want you.”
