Many, not all, of you are missing the point. The point of the AI is provide a challenge while appearing to act like a human, not like an all seeing machine it obviously could be. If it cheats to do that, make sure the player doesn’t know. If it has to play like the player, make sure it’s not dumber than your average third grader.
The best AIs are the ones that feel like playing against a human in that they not only make mistakes, but do things you weren’t expecting. That’s why AI still lags behind humans in terms of an acceptable challenge. It’s not easy to make AI that appears human (has flaws, does unexpected things, appears random at times, makes mistakes, etc).
Where can one find this collection all in once place? I’ve only ever seen the “What the hell are all you goddamn shitheads talking about?” one. Something along those lines, anyway.
Did you fall within their 90-day window? Preorders that came earlier are the ones who get the store credit shaft.
That’s it, I believe. It’s now a collection of two Sparky Precious Moments.
Epic win!
I would LOVE to have me one of these!
Ah, yeah. I bought it release week off Impulse. I emailed about a refund on September second, took the 75% option, and had the funds back in my checking account on the third.
So for the CRIME of supporting $camdock they fucked you for Twelve Dollars Fifty Cents? Unbelievable, I’ve been mugged for less.
Yeah, that’s really killing me that I’m getting heat for asking for a full refund - they’d rather get me riled up over $12 than make a customer happy and refund me full - especially since other people ARE getting refunds. $12!? Sheesh.
Also, I asked them if they would like some assistance working out a better ticket system that doesn’t dump an end user at the bottom of the heap just for having the audacity to CONTACT THEM. No reponse yet.
Yeah. I’m real broken up about it. Haven’t slept in days.

Thanks for the figurine!
QT3 has always sound to me like Trolltechnology or something like that.

Now I see that all of you guys are a bunch of cool duendes (-:

That sucks. Getting mugged, I mean.
Maybe you should have bought it from Best Buy? What? They won’t let you return open PC games? Scammers. Hey, how about Amazon? No? Damn. Steam? Crap, they don’t do iteither - and besides, I can’t get the game there. Gamestop? Well, if it was a console game then maybe I could sell it back as used, but they also don’t seem to accept returns on opened PC games.
Maybe if I asked really nicely? Is there anything in there covering the game not working on my PC? Nope. Dang it.
In short, you get f**ked because hardly anyone lets you return games once you’ve opened them.
It seriously stinks, and I wish everyone had the option to just return a game because they don’t like it, but we don’t. I guess this is just one more example of where rampant piracy hurts the consumer - were the fear of pirated copies not out there (which would also entail no more limited install DRM and what not), I’m pretty darn sure more places would take them back without a second thought as long as it was a somewhat reasonable request like “I hated this game, so I want to try another!”
Seriously: it really is a shame, because I think if the economy was able to work like that, we’d see far fewer games that need patches and probably far better support for those that do.
Alas, that’s a world we don’t live in. Perhaps we should get over it, now.
So hate Brad for selling you a bill of goods if you think that’s what he did (but hate yourself just as much if not more for buying it sight-unseen). Hate Brad for his political views. Hate Brad for sneering at your wife’s review of his book. Hate Brad for running over your dog. But the refund policy? C’mon. It’s a heck of a lot more liberal than those examples I listed above.
Heh. Brad being “liberal” - I like it ;)
Sorry previous poster I didn’t see your seriouspost before cat posting
Agreed 100%. I never understand why some people get so hung up on whether or not the computer opponent is cheating. What matters is how challenged it makes me feel, and that I enjoy the fight.
I wouldn’t even stipulate that the opponent has to act like a human. When I was playing Civ2, for example, it was okay for me to exploit the fact that you could use caravans to speed up Wonders and other construction. So it was okay for me to have armies of caravans converging on my wonder-making city. But I’d better not see the AI doing something like that, because that sort of ruins the immersion for me. It’s okay for me to use a certain exploit, but just because a human would do it, doesn’t mean I’m okay with the AI doing it.
You tell me. I made my point, clearly, and you used it for a Peewee-caliber zinger that should have been smothered in the crib. It’s like when people are surprised that others aren’t receptive to their latest spin on “FIXED”. So, no, I’m perfectly happy to have you go your way as I go mine.

I don’t think he intended it as a zinger. Mark’s not really that kind of poster. I think he meant what he said - that those words apply more to Matt than anyone else. It certainly wasn’t some kind of FYP bullshit.
